The line sloping to the left has been included in the Kangxi dictionary under the radicals, and this mistake has been carried over to the present day.

The character丿is similar to the Katakana "no" while乀the Bopomofozeichen "egg" a lot, and the hiragana does "he" similarly removed.

The character 丿 (彎 wān) belongs to the eight principles of the character (永字八法 Yǒngzì Bāfǎ) and is thus one of the eight basic strokes on which Chinese calligraphy is based. Based on the shape, it has the following nicknames:

  • Horn of the rhinoceros (xījiǎo 犀角)
  • Crab tongs (xiāzhuǎ 蟹爪)
  • Take off (tiāo 挑)
  • Tiger tooth (hǔyá 虎牙)
  • short slash (duǎnpiě 短 撇)
