Spelling variants of the radical: 糹 and 纟. With 糸 and 糹 character combinations from U + 7CF8 to 纞 U + 7E9E are coded, then with 纟 from U + 7E9F to 缵 U + 7F35.

The radical "silk" takes only in the traditional characters - list of traditional radicals consisting of 214 radicals 120. position. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries.

Legend attributes the invention of silk to the wife of the Yellow Emperor . Silk was around before the Shang dynasty . As a "thread" it can already be found under the oracle bones . Only around 550 did two monks on behalf of Emperor Justinian I steal silkworms from China, thereby damaging the Chinese monopoly of silk production. The pictogram shows two cocoons on top of each other and three threads connected. The hand over the thread results in a tie. The son / child 子 ( Zi ) and the thread 糸 ( Mì ) is the grandson 孫 ( Sūn ), which means the continuation of the family. The silk next to the fluff means velvet.
