Rantzwiller (German Rantsweiler ) is a French commune with 795 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse , the canton of Brunstatt and the municipality of Saint-Louis Agglomération .

history

At the time, Rantzwiller belonged to the rule of Oberlandser and formed a large community with Geispitzen , Kœtzingue , Magstatt-le-Haut and Waltenheim . The old St. George's Church was mentioned as early as the 13th century.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Rantzwiller belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .

Attractions

  • In place of today's St. Georg Church, which was built from 1854 to 1858, there was a previous building with a three-story tower and gable roof from the 13th century. In the new construction, the old bell tower with the Gothic windows was taken over and a pointed roof was added. In the choir there are two statues and a painting by the Basel painter Georg Dantzer . It depicts the martyrdom of St. Sebastian . The baptismal font in the church dates from 1616.
