Real Love (maxi single / EP) -

Real Love ( English True love ) is published on 4 March 1996 CD Maxi Single (formerly EP ) of the British rock band The Beatles . It was the Beatles' 16th and final EP in the UK and the third EP to be released on Apple (catalog number R 6425). The CD maxi single was also released in the USA and Germany on March 5, 1996. The song Real Love comes from the album Anthology 2 .

background

The CD maxi single and single Real Love were released two weeks after the album Anthology 2 was released on March 18, 1996. The EP contains three songs that are not on the album Anthology 2 and so far only on this CD maxi single are available. In addition, Real Love was also released as a 7 "vinyl single and also as a CD single in Europe. The 7 ″ vinyl single / CD single contains the songs Real Love / Baby's in Black .

On March 16, 1996, the CD maxi / single went into the UK singles charts; overall, held Real Love seven weeks in the singles chart and reached number 4 in the first week 50,000 copies were sold. In the USA the single reached number 11 and in Germany number 45 in the singles charts.

Since Real Love was hardly played on BBC Radio 1 , Paul McCartney made a statement on March 9, 1996 in the English newspaper Daily Mirror :

“The Beatles don't need our new single, Real Love, to be a hit. It's not as if our careers depend on it. If Radio 1 feels that we should be banned now, it's not exactly going to ruin us overnight. You can't put an age limit on good music. It's very heartening to know that, while the kindergarten kings of Radio 1 may think The Beatles are too old to come out to play, a lot of younger British bands don't seem to share that view. I'm forever reading how bands like Oasis are openly crediting The Beatles as inspiration, and I'm pleased that I can hear The Beatles in a lot of the music around today. As Ringo said to me about all this, who needs Radio 1 when you've got all the independent stations? "

In a press release on October 17, 1996, McCartney, Harrison and Starr announced that there would be no further joint recordings, making Real Love the last newly recorded song and single that the Beatles officially released.
