Roye is a French municipality with 5786 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montdidier and is the capital of the canton of Roye .

Roye is located on the Avre , a tributary of the Somme in the rich plains of Santerre on the A1, 100 km from Paris and Lille .

history
Roye is one of the key towns in the historic French landscape of Santerre, which later became part of Picardy. Here on January 21, 1330 Johanna II. Countess Palatine of Burgundy , Countess of Artois and Mistress of Salins died in her own right, as well as through her marriage to Philip V, Queen of France .
The French revolutionary and early socialist Fr. Noel "Gracchus" Babeuf (1760–1797) worked as a surveyor in Roye before the revolution.
During the Second World War , a few kilometers further south near Amy was the military airfield Roye-Amy .
Attractions
- Saint-Pierre church: built in the 12th century, renovated around 1535; Suffered severe damage in World War I and was rebuilt in 1930, with the 12th century choir and the 16th century stained glass windows being restored
Town twinning
Roye has been twinning with the German community of Wedemark since March 1984.
