The Sportclub Rheindorf Altach (officially CASHPOINT Sportclub Rheindorf Altach through sponsorship ), SCR Altach for short or just SCRA , is a football club from Altach in Vorarlberg . The club currently plays in the Bundesliga and plays its home games in the Cashpoint Arena . The club colors are black and white. The professional football department has been outsourced to SCR Altach Spielbetriebs GmbH since July 1, 2016 , of which the club is the sole shareholder.

history

The Cashpoint SC Rheindorf Altach has its roots in the Turnerbund Altach. On December 26, 1929, Anton Giesinger - supported by Julius Längle, Erwin Fend and Manfred Monz - submitted an application to establish a football department in the already existing gymnastics association. This was approved after a lengthy discussion and Erwin Fend was appointed as the first department head. The footballers started playing in the Vorarlberg B-Class as early as 1930 as FA Turnerbund Altach . In 1937 the game had to be stopped again. It was not until March 1, 1946 that the Altach Sports Association (SV Altach) was founded as the successor to the Gymnastics Federation. Just one day later, on March 2, 1946, the founding meeting of the football section within the Altach sports association followed. In 1949 the sports association was dissolved again. The football section achieved its independence on March 5, 1949 and gave itself the name Sportclub Rheindorf Altach and commuted in the following years between the 1st class Oberland and the regional league.

In 1986, the black and whites were able to prevail for the first time in the Vorarlberger Landesliga and rise to the third-class Regionalliga West . Here the SC Rheindorf Altach quickly established itself among the leading clubs and after a second place (1989) in 1991 for the first time as a regional league champion, well before the Salzburg AK 1914, rose to the 2nd division . As the bottom of the table, the club then had to go to the relegation playoff, where at the end one point was missing to relegate. It was not until 1997 that they returned as regional league champions, but again in 1997/98 a point to keep them up was missing. In 2004 the Vorarlberg team started again in the second division, now known as the first division, after the new relegation hurdle had been mastered with a total of 6: 4 against FC Lustenau 07 .

This time Vorarlberg established themselves in the league and even secured promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in the 2005/06 season with a 1-0 win in front of 7,500 spectators in the penultimate championship round against SC Austria Lustenau . In the 2006/07 debut season , the black and whites reached eighth place in the table. This placement could be repeated in the following season 2007/08 . In the 2008/09 season they were in the lower table regions from the start, after the first half of the season they were last with only ten points. In the second half of the season there was a gripping duel with SV Mattersburg against relegation, which lasted until the last day of the match. On the last day of the match, against FC Red Bull Salzburg , who were already the champions - with a major defeat by Mattersburg - a big away win would have been needed to save them. The Altachern achieved the sensation with a 4-1, but SV Mattersburg also won their game.

In the 2009/10 season , Vorarlberg played in the first division for a long time for immediate promotion. In the final table, however, the club had to be content with third place. In the following 2010/11 season , the team played for a long time for promotion to the Bundesliga. After the last game of the season, the Altacher only separated one point from the championship, behind FC Admira Wacker Mödling they finished second in the final table. Also in the 2011/12 season one failed in the attempt to rise to the top division. The Altacher were six points behind champions Wolfsberger AC / St. Andrä runner-up; Nothing could change that coach Adi Hütter was replaced by Edmund Stöhr eight game days before the end of the season . For the 2012/13 season , the German Rainer Scharinger , former coach of the German second division club Karlsruher SC , took over the post of head coach with the aim of promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. After six months, Scharinger was given a leave of absence during the winter break at the beginning of January 2013 and was replaced by Damir Canadi . With his order, the Rheindörflers were able to achieve second place ahead of their local rivals in the 2013 spring season after a catastrophic autumn, 13 points behind autumn champions SC Austria Lustenau .

For the 2013/14 season , promotion to the Bundesliga was again given as a goal. After a promising start, SCR Altach was able to secure the autumn championship title on November 22nd with five points ahead of Kapfenberger SV . Due to good performances and mistakes by the competition, the cushion was expanded and on April 29, four game days before the end of the season, they could celebrate winning the championship and the associated promotion to the Bundesliga. At the end of the season, SCR Altach had collected 73 points and had a lead of 14 points.

The 2014/15 Bundesliga season ended in third place. With 59 points they overtook the Grazer AK as the best newcomer in Bundesliga history. The club also qualified for the third qualifying round of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League . No Vorarlberg association had succeeded in doing this before. After two wins against the Portuguese of Vitória Guimarães with a total score of 6: 2 Altach rose to the play-off round. There Altach failed after a 0-1 at home in the first leg and a goalless draw in the second leg at Belenenses Lisbon . In the second year after promotion, the Altachers finished the 2015/16 Bundesliga season in eighth place with 40 points. The double burden at the beginning of the season with the Europa League and numerous injuries ensured that the Rheindörflers had a hard time and were afraid of relegation until the end of the season. The 2016/17 season was both a dream and a nightmare for Altach. The club ended 2016 sensationally as the winter king. In November, trainer Damir Canadi was poached from SK Rapid Vienna. Under his successor Martin Scherb , Altach finished the spring as the second worst team and finally reached fourth place. Red Bull Salzburg's cup win against Rapid Vienna ensured that SCRA was able to take part again as a successor in the qualification for the Euroleague of the following season.

In the first qualifying round of the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League, Altach beat Tschichura Satschchere from Georgia 1-0 and 1-1 respectively. They also survived the second round, this time against the Belarusian club FK Dinamo Brest . After a 1: 1 draw, Altach won with a clear 3: 0 away win. The same thing happened again in the third round, this time against the top Belgian club KAA Gent . In the play-off they narrowly failed against Israeli record champions Maccabi Tel Aviv with the total score 2: 3. The 2017/18 season started moderately under the new coach Klaus Schmidt due to the double burden. After a total of 31 competitive games in autumn, 2017 ended in seventh place.

Venues

From 1950 to 1990 the SC Rheindorf Altach played at the Riedle sports field . Since the Schnabelholz stadium opened in June 1990, the Riedle sports field has only been used as a training ground for young players. As a result of the promotion to the Bundesliga, the stadium was further expanded, in winter 2007 a new west stand was built and the capacity increased to 8,500 spectators with 3,000 seats. In the summer of 2015, further investments were made in the stadium: the field was expanded to the international dimensions of 105 × 68 running meters and provided with underfloor heating. In addition, the floodlight system was upgraded to meet the requirements of the HD television age and the more stringent licensing requirements, and the final expansion of the west stand added around 500 covered seats. Further plans include a new construction of the south stand including roofing. In future, the European Cup games will no longer be played in Innsbruck, but in Altach.

Sponsors

In the first successful years of the early 1990s, the club name was Vaillant SC Rheindorf Altach. As a result of the promotion to the then 2nd division and the resulting competition for names with VfB Vaillant Mödling , the club was renamed SC Rheindorf Altach again. After the entry of the company "Enjo", the club was called Enjo SC Rheindorf Altach until 2005. Due to a sponsorship change in the winter break of 2005/06 to the sports betting provider Cashpoint , the club name changed to Cashpoint SC Rheindorf Altach . After additional sponsor payments to finance the stadium expansion, the Schnabelholz was renamed "Cashpoint-Arena" in June 2007. The budget for the 2015/16 season was just 3.5 million euros.
