history
The area has been inhabited for several millennia, as archaeological excavations show. Sukhothai comes into the spotlight as a garrison of the Khmer people in the 12th century , who set up an important border post here against Burmese peoples. This garrison was surrounded by fragmented Tai peoples and was overrun in 1238 and established as the first capital of an empire on what is now Thailand, see Sukhothai (Kingdom) for more details . In the sister city of Si Satchanalai there was a viceroy ( Uparat ) at that time . (Thai)
Relations with the Chinese Empire were developed under King Ramkhamhaeng, the great , who also invented and used the Thai script that is still in use today in Sukhothai .
The kingdom of Sukhothai went later in the 15th century in the Ayutthaya Kingdom on.
