The Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 1989/90 was the 19th season of the third highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It was started on September 23, 1989 with the 1st game day and ended on May 20, 1990 with the 30th and final game day.

Competition mode

The 1989/90 season, the 3rd Lig was played as a nine-track league like the preseason . The total number of teams reduced from 147 to 136. These 136 teams played in nine groups for promotion to the 2nd league or against relegation to the regional amateur leagues. The division of the league was carried out regionally, so that all teams in a group came from neighboring or close to one another provinces . All first placed went straight to the 2nd league . Although the season originally started with relegation to the regional amateur leagues, the Turkish Football Association decided that the season was subsequently played without relegation.

Beginning of the season were the remaining from the previous season 121 Teams eleven relegated from the 2. Lig Mardinspor , Bitlisspor , Kayserispor , Zonguldakspor , Sönmez Filamentspor , Yeni Afyonspor , Trabzonspor B, Babaeskispor , Çorluspor , Düzcespor , Uzunköprüspor , the four newcomers Trabzon PTT , Adana Gençlerbirliği , Antalya Yolspor , Maltepespor have been added. The newcomers were either accepted as champions from the then fourth-class regional amateur leagues or had met the requirements of the Turkish Football Association and were allowed to participate in the third division.

Ünyespor ( Group 1 ), Elazığspor ( Group 2 ), Hatayspor ( Group 3 ), Düzce Kervan Doğsanspor ( Group 4 ), Yeni Afyonspor ( Group 5 ), Bucaspor ( Group 6 ), Gönenspor ( Group 7 ), Gaziosmanpaşaspor ( Group 8 ) and Yalovaspor ( Group 9 ) achieved the championship of the 3rd Lig in their groups and thus direct promotion to the 2nd Lig .

Since the season was played him without relegation, there were no regular relegations. The Turkish Football Association declared in the summer of 1990 that in the future it would no longer be allowed for a club with more than one team to be represented in the Turkish professional leagues. For example, from the clubs that were already represented in the professional leagues, the reserve or second teams were no longer allowed to participate in the professional leagues. As a result, the teams Trabzonspor B, Karşıyaka SK B, Galatasaray Istanbul B had to relegate to the regional amateur league at the end of the season. In addition, Tekirdağ Büyük Salatspor withdrew after the 5th game day of play and had to relegate as a result at the end of the season.

Due to various violations, the teams Bafraspor , Adıyamanspor and Uşakspor were deducted three points.
