Ternant is a French municipality with 192 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) and the canton of Luzy (until 2015: canton of Fours ).

Ternant is about 58 kilometers east-southeast of Nevers in the Morvan . Ternant is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Savigny-Poil-Fol in the north, Tazilly in the east, Cressy-sur-Somme in the south and southeast, Saint-Seine in the southwest and La Nocle-Maulaix in the west.
