Valmy is a French commune with 294 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Champagne-Ardenne ). It belongs to the arrondissement Châlons-en-Champagne and the canton Argonne Suippe et Vesle (until 2015 Sainte-Menehould ). The inhabitants are called Valmesiens .

Valmy is around forty kilometers east-northeast of Châlons-en-Champagne . Neighboring municipalities are Hans in the north, Dommartin-sous-Hans in the north and northeast, Maffrécourt in the northeast, Braux-Sainte-Cohière in the east, Dommartin-Dampierre in the southeast, Gizaucourt and La Chapelle-Felcourt in the south, and Saint-Mard-sur-Auve in the south and south-west, Auve in the south-west, La Croix-en-Champagne in the west and Somme-Bionne in the north-west.

The A4 autoroute runs through the municipality .

history

On September 20, 1792, during the first coalition war, the Valmy cannonade took place , as a result of which the Prussian-Hessian army withdrew from France.
