Herpont (1793 still with the spelling Herpant ) is a French commune with 136 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Châlons-en-Champagne and to the municipality association L'Argonne Champenoise, founded in 2014 .

The municipality of Herpont is located 25 kilometers east of the departmental capital Châlons-en-Champagne in the middle of the Champagne sèche , the "dry Champagne". The area is characterized by rolling hills covered by large fields. The community area of ​​23 km² is almost forestless. The river Rouillat has its source in Herpont and joins the Yèvre five kilometers to the east . Between Herpont and the hamlet of Herpine , located two and a half kilometers to the east, the Rouillat is dammed up into a pond, which is primarily used to irrigate the agricultural areas. Herpont is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Mard-sur-Auve in the north, Dampierre-le-Château in the northeast, Dommartin-Varimont in the southeast, Somme-Yèvre in the south, Moivre in the southwest and Somme-Vesle in the west.
