The place is located on the Marne River and the Canal latéral à la Marne ( Marne Lateral Canal ), which allows a navigable connection to the Paris area to the west and a connection to the Rhine or the Mediterranean Sea to the east . The Canal de l'Aisne à la Marne (German: Aisne-Marne Canal ) branches off here to the north and opens up a waterway to north-west France and Belgium .
