It belongs to the Arrondissement Châlons-en-Champagne (until 2017: Arrondissement Épernay ) and to the community association Châlons-en-Champagne founded in 2016 .

Montépreux is located 35 kilometers south-south-west of the departmental capital Châlons-en-Champagne and 55 kilometers north of Troyes in the Champagne sèche , the "dry Champagne". Montépreux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vassimont-et-Chapelaine in the north, Haussimont in the north and northeast, Sommesous in the east and northeast, Mailly-le-Camp in the east and southeast, Semoine in the south and Connantray-Vaurefroy in the west and northwest.
