Coolus is located in the north-east of France in the Champagne countryside . Coolus is located about four kilometers south-southwest of the city center of Châlons-en-Champagne on the Coole and the Marne , which forms the eastern municipal boundary. Coolus is surrounded by the municipalities of Compertrix in the north and north-west, Sarry in the east, Écury-sur-Coole in the south, Cheniers in the south-west and Villers-le-Château in the west and north-west.

The so-called Coolus helmet , which was found here, is named after the place . Originally probably a Celtic development, it was used in the Roman army from the first century BC.
