Location and economy

The former town of Waalwijk, which passed from Holland to Brabant in 1232 and received town charter in 1303, is located north of Tilburg in the Langstraat region , named after an old, long road towards ' s-Hertogenbosch , which has always been the center of the Dutch shoe - and Leather industry is. The Waalwijker leather and shoe factories now import their products from Italy, among others . The proximity to the Maas has always promoted this industry. There are several others in Waalwijk, mainly small industrial, commercial and service companies. With Stahl Holdings a larger company in the chemical industry has its headquarters in Waalwijk.

The municipality has several exits on the A59 motorway , Waalwijk u. a. connects with the neighboring towns of Oosterhout in the west and 's-Hertogenbosch in the east. To the south, to Tilburg, the N261 , which is partially developed like a motorway, creates a road connection. Waalwijk no longer has a railway connection.
