Driscoll Catholic Football (Driscoll Catholic High School)

The Driscoll Catholic High School Football team in Addison, Illinois has recently broken the IHSA record for consecutive state football championships with five. They won in class 4A in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005, and class 3 A in 2004. The classes in Illionis High School Football are determined by student enrollment, with the smallest schools (1A) to the largest schools (8A). in 2004, Driscoll's enrollment of incoming freshman did not exceed the number of seniors of the previous year leaving, so they were put in 3A.

  • The normal progression for high school articles is to add information about school districts to the Addison, Illinois article, and then branch off an article about individual systems when the Addison article becomes unwieldy, and then to branch off an article about the high school when there's too much about it in the system article. I don't think we have a precedent for putting a high school football program in a separate article. I'll create the Driscoll Catholic High School article as a stub and encourage you to fill in a balanced report about the school as a whole (being careful to use verifiable sources, use a neutral POV, and avoid copyright violations. Deep Sleep Therapy a.k.a. Deep Sedation Therapy (DST)

British psychiatrist Dr William Sargant pioneered a psychiatric treatment known as Deep Sleep Therapy.

In a nutshell it was theorised that you could literally sleep off your depression and other mental problems. And simply put, it didn't work, resulting in about 48 Australians losing their lives, and countless others still suffering today from the effects of D.S.T....a glaring example of a gross breach in Duty of Care and a national disgrace.

In New South Wales, Australia, prominent psychiatrist Dr Harry Bailey specialised in this form of therapy, He set up and ran Chelmsford Private Hospital, located at No.2 The Crescent in the northern Sydney suburb of Pennant Hills, between 1963 to 1979.

All of the information located here is accurate and from those three sources. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation made a documentary that appeared in the mid-late 1980's, and news coverage about the Chelmsford scandal was pretty intense. The Royal Commission files (volumes upon volumes of data, which I've read) are open to the public. There was a time when you could purchase copies of them, but not anymore. You would have to physically go to the library and read and or photocopy them (which I can't do now due to my location). I will be grateful for anyone out there who knew of this case to help satisfy the requests for reliability by contributing what they know. It was the shortest summary that I could come up with, but if it sounds like I'm ranting then so be it, and I'm only echoing the truth. Jeff Blatnick

Jeff Blatnick was an Amercian Greco Roman wrestler gold medalist in the 1984 Olympics in the Heavweight class. His success, while significant in and of itself, was made even more remarkable by his recovery from cancer sometime prior to the 1984 Games. Blatnick's gold medal, along with that of teammate Steve Fraser, was the first gold medal won by an American in Olympic Greco Roman wrestling.

Mr. Blatnick now works primarily as a motivational speaker and resides in the state of New York.

City Avenue

City Avenue (commonly referred to as 'City Line' or 'the Line') is a major commercial, retail, and partial residential strip which straddles along the borders of Philadelphia and the suburban Lower Merion Township communities of Bala Cynwyd, Merion Station, and Overbrook Hills. Many people referred to City Avenue as City Line Avenue because one side of the street is in the city of Philadelphia and the other side is in the suburbs. However, this is only partially correct because it is also a county line (between Philadelphia and Montgomery counties).

City Avenue, which is apart ofU.S. Route 1 runs between Presidential Boulevard in the Wynnefield Heights section of the city/Bala Cynwyd in Lower Merion and 77th Street in the Overbrook Park section. At approximately 40 feet from 77th Street. City Line Avenue becomes Township Line Road in Haverford Township in Delaware County.

Boris Ponomarev

Boris Nikolayevich Ponomarev (Russian: Борис Николаевич Пономарев) (January 17, 1905 - December 21, 1995) was a Soviet politician and ideologist, and a member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

From 1955 to 1986, he was chief of the International Department of the CPSU Central Committee - and effectively in control of policy in the World Communist Movement. He occupied an office within Central Committee headquarters right up until the failed 1991 August Coup, which he is said to have supported.

Saugus, California

Saugus, California - Part of the Santa Clarita Valley. Located near Canyon Country and Newhall.

Landmark - Bonelli Stadium, now known as Saugus Speedway, was built as a rodeo arena in 1927 by Roy Baker and owned briefly by actor Hoot Gibson, the rodeo grounds were purchased in 1937 by William Bonelli, who started automobile racing there in 1939. The stadium was a raceway until being closed in the mid 1990's. The famed Saugus Speedway was home to NASCAR star, Ron Hornaday, Jr.

Saugus caters to family living with most of its development built along its main thoroughfare, Bouquet Canyon Road, which extends through picturesque hills all the way to the Antelope Valley. This is a popular area with rolling hills and beautiful winding canyons. A recent residents' survey revealed that 70 percent of the homeowners want to maintain Saugus as a bedroom community and not a business-oriented area. Saugus is a great place to live with nationally acclaimed schools, a large Metrolink Station and more!

Ball washer

A ball washer is an equipment for the cleaning of dirty golf balls. Because golf balls have in contrast to other balls a rough surface, they pollute much easier than other balls.

There are different designs of ball washers. They can be operated either by hand or electrically. Ball washers for cleaning individual balls consist of a cylindrical housing, in which the ball to be cleaned is brought in. The cleaning of the ball takes place via circulating brushes. For the cleaning of larger number of golf balls there are machines, which aspirate the balls like a vacuum cleaner wash them in an inserted and put the washed balls afterwards in a separate net.

Aluminium Amalgam

Aluminium Amalgam develops, if one brings aluminum together with mercury. In contrast to aluminum no protecting oxide layer can be formed on Aluminium Amalgam , so that Aluminium Amalgam is chemically very reactive. Aluminium Amalgam is used as reducing agent. At air Aluminium Amalgam forms long white threadlike structures. Because airplanes are built to a large extent of aluminum, running out mercury leads to the formation of Aluminium Amalgam and to the destruction of the external wall, which can lead to a crash.

The German article (new yesterday) was enhanced today to say that was used for sabotage in World War II, however, the whole airplane issue would be a minor sideline in a proper article. It is, though, the reason that you are not allowed to take mercury thermometers (e.g. anlalogue clinical ones) onto passenger aircraft.

Aluminium is surprisingly reactive; a demo I have often done is to show household Al foil reacting with water, something it does if you add a trace of a mercury salt to the water. it's the generally used abbreviation for the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement - maybe somebody could create a page with a redirect to the Wikipedia page on the Agreement

Static route

A route that is manually entered into a routing table. Static routes take precedence over routes chosen by all dynamic routing protocols.

Essentially a dictonary definiton, so doesn't belong here. The second sentence might qualify, but is misleading or wrong and not enough to justify an article in its own right. In particular, it is not at all uncommon to have a static default route that is overridden by more specific dynamic routes, and, in the TCP/IP suite, ICMP redirects will override a static route.

Ligatures

A ligature is a device used in the dental specialty of orthodontics to tie, or ligate, an archwire to a bracket or band that is attached to a tooth. Ligatures may be constructed of latex, vinyl, or stainless steel. Latex or vinyl ligatures, technically known as elastomeric modules, may be individual units ("O-tie", "A-tie") or may be fused together to create a continuous chain used to move a tooth or several teeth. In this capacity they are known as "power chains" or "elastic chains", among other names. Lastly, a ligature may consist of a small-width stainless steel wire (.010" or .012") that is used when an archwire needs to be tightly engaged into the slot of a bracket. This is often done when one does not want a tooth to rotate about its axis under orthodontic forces.

Marcia Griffiths

Marcia Llyneth Griffiths (* November 23 1949 in Kingston, Jamaica) also called "Queen of Reggae" is Jamaican's most famouse female singer. Griffith started her carrer in 1964. From 1970 to 1974 she worked together with Bob Andy in the group "Bob and Marcia". Between 1974 and 1981 she was a member of the I-Threes, a background group which supported Bob Marley & the Wailers.

I think an article should be written about Ethan Hunt,the main character in the "Mission: Impossible" movies who is potrayed by Tom Cruise. He is a relatively well developed character, and could at the very least, make for a good stub.

Put Kids First

Put Kids First is a non-profit organization whos goal is to keep kids safe through community involvement, education and legislation.

It is a group that was Started by Chris Danielson after the dissapearance of a 10 year old girl from Chris' neighborhood on October 1 2000. A month later she was found murdered.

Since the beginning, Put Kids First members and volunteers have petitioned for a sex offender registry, have attended and organized community events to bring awareness to the issues regarding children's safety, making appearances at offenders' court dates, speaking out and fighting for changes to the law.

Visionary ship designer dies

John Stratford Rogers, Chairman and CEO of World City Corporation, died in October of 2005. He was in the process of building the world's largest passenger ship that would sail under a US flag - a rarity in today's foreign-flagged monoploy of the industry. Multiple obituaries appeared in the New York Times. He has been featured on ABC World News Tonight. The project continues on under the guidance of his partner Stephanie Gallagher. De Havilland Dragon DH84

The first DH84 Dragon (before the later DH89 Dragon Rapide)was designed to be an airliner which could operate a profitable air service without requiring a subsidy, and in this it proved sucessful. The DH 84 is a wooden biplane with two Gipsy Major 130Hp 4 cylinder aero engines also of De Havilland design and manufacture. The aircraft carries 5-6 passengers and one pilot, at a speed around 105Kts. It is generally considered an excellent example of its type although like most light twins of the time underpowered, being unable to maintain height on one engine. Three versions were produced, initially a military communications version with an extended fin, the Mark 1 with "glasshouse" full length window glazing, and a Mark 2 with wheel spats and more stylish,fully-framed windows. A second series of Mark 1's were later produced during WW2 in Australia for the armed forces, and several of these survive. One of the latter is airworthy in New Zealand, ZK-AXI, having previously served with the RAAF. Another is airworthy in Australia. A number served with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, operating in difficult and hot situations.

caecitis

Is an infection with resulting inflammation of the caecum. Usually caused by gram negative enteric commensal bacteria of the gut. Affects immunocompromised patients like those undergoing chemotherapy, with AIDS or the elderly. Symptoms of caecitis include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Diagnosed with a radiograph CT scan showing thickening of the caecum and "fat stranding".

Miller effect

In electronics, the Miller effect is the tendency of a capacitance to be multiplied by the gain of adjacent stages.

Intuitively, since a gain represents a voltage multiplication between points, any capacitor across these points will charge and discharge with a current which is a (1 + gain) times greater than it "should" be. The result is that the effective capacitance "seen" by the circuit is therefore (1 + gain) times greater than it actually is.

Example: A 10pF capacitor placed across an amplifier with a gain of 10 would appear to be (1 + 10)*10pF, or 110pF.

Naturally, this increased capacitance can wreak havoc with high frequency response. For example, the tiny junction and stray capacitances in a Darlington transistor drastically reduce the high frequency response through the Miller effect and the Darlington's high gain.

James "Spike" O'Toole

James "Spike" O'Toole was an Irish-American gangster from Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was a close friend of The Winter Hill Gang of Somerville, and their leader James "Buddy" McLean. He was targeted for assassination by The McLaughlin Brothers gang of Charlestown, when a Cambridge gangster named Ronald Dermody fell in love with his girlfriend. Dermody made a deal with George McLaughlin that if they would kill O'Toole, he would kill McLean. Dermody's plan backfired and he wound up dead, and The McLaughlin's forgot about O'Toole. Years later, in December of 1973, O'Toole (Who had survived many assassination attempts) was ran over by a gangland assassin while leaving a bar in South Boston.

A Department of Defense initiative, created in 2002, to create a general counterintelligence system aimed at supplying "actionable" information to key decision makers at all levels of the government.

The program is designed to feed information into the counterintelligence, counterespionage, anti-terrorism, law enforcement, and security aspects of the government, in addition to providing training and education in the same fields for the federal government.

A recent (November, 2005) proposal would transform the CIFA from an office that is security oriented to one that can also investigate suspicious activity within the United States such as treason, foreign or terrorist sabotage, or even economic espionage.

[[Pinnacle Airlines]] Flight 3701 was an empty 50-seat [[Bombardier]] [[Canadair]] [[Regional Jet]] [[CRJ-200]] on ferry from [[Little Rock, Arkansas]] ([[Little Rock National Airport]]) to [[Minneapolis, Minnesota]] ([[Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport]]), manned by two pilots, Captain [[Jesse Rhodes]] and First Officer [[Peter Cesarz]]. The RJ crashed when the engines could not be restarted, and they could not reach an airport. ==The incident== The two pilots were hot-rodding the CRJ-200 on their ''deadhead'' flight. The pilots decided to test the limits of the CRJ, and join the [[410 Club]] (referring to pilots who pushed CRJs to their flight ceilings). The anti-stall devices activated while they were at altitude, but the pilots overrode the automatic nose down that would increase speed to prevent stall. After four overrides, both engines experienced flameout, and shutdown. The plane then stalled, and the pilots recovered from stall at 38,000 ft, while still having no engines. This lead the pilots to pitch nose down in an attempt to restart the engines. The crew failed to dive sharply enough to attain the required 300 kt for a windmill restart, ending the dive when they had reached 230 kt. The crew then tried to restart engines using the [[APU]] at 13,000 ft. This was again unsuccessful. They then declared to [[air traffic control]] that they had a single engine flameout. At this point they had 4 diversion airports available to them. As they continued to not be able to restart, they declared to ATC that they had infact had both engines flameout, whereupon only 2 airports were available. 'Snowmachine' is widespread term used in place of snowmobile across Alaska and parts of Canada. Snowmachines are also called 'sleds or simply 'machines. Additionally, "ski-doo" is also an Alaskan term for snowmobile, named after the brand of snowmobile. In the verb form, "snowmachining" is used, in addition to "sledding" and "ski-dooing".

Linear Formations

The movement away from phalanx-like formations of pike protected by handgunners towards shallow formations of handgunners protected by progessively fewer pikes. William Louis of Nassau thought that six rotating ranks of musketeers were needed to maintain a continuous fire. Gustavus Adolpus used only six ranks thanks to newly introduced drill and the professionalisation of the Swedish army under him. This kind of formation would get prgessively thinner untill its' peak in the age of Wellington with the 'Thin Red Line'. It would eventually be replaced by skirmish order at the time of the invention of the breach loading rifle that allowed the Prussians during the Franco-Prussian War to move and fire independently of the large scale formations and fight in small, mobile units.

George Hickenlooper

George Hickenlooper was born in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, the 15th of May, 1965. He became interested in filmaking very quickly as a child. His desire to make movies came in part from his great uncle, Leopold Stokowski's involvement in the making of the hit Disney animated film, Fantasia (1940), where Leopold was the conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. If had only been for Great Uncle Leopold, however, George may have started a career in music. His father and mother's careers were therefor essential to his urge to become a director. His father was a playwrite, and his mother, a leader to a rebel theatre group against the War in Vietnam. The first 8mm films were animated and George made them with his friend, Kirk Wise, who would later go on to become the director of the widely popular Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. While he was in school, George Hickenlooper made short movies that were premiered on Public Television in St.Louis and Kansas City. After graduating from Yale with a B.A. of History and Film Studies in 1986, Hickenlooper interned for the producer Roger Corman, and in 1988, he started his directing career with Art, Acting, and the Suicide Chair: Dennis Hopper, which was a short documentary about Dennis Hopper, the actor or director in films such as Waterworld and Speed. The next big break was when he wrote the book, REEL CONVERSATIONS, in 1991, and in the same year when he made the movie Hearts of Darkness: A Filmaker's Apocalypse, the documentary on the making of the movie Apocalypse Now.

Mercury fountain

A mercury fountain is a fountain using mercury as liquid. The only known existing merury fountain was created by Alexander Calder in 1937 in remembrance to the miners who were killed at the mercury mines at Almadén as memorial. This mercury fountain, which is at the Fundació Miró in Barcelona, is nowadays for safety reasons behind glass. Mercury fountains existed in Islamic Spain at some castles in Islamic Spain, the most famous one was at the Kasr-al-Kholaifa at Cordoba.

He was born in Lauenau, the son of Lisel Möws and Günter Mows a geodesie engineer and town-planner of Hannover Lower Saxonia. He studies hydraulic engineering and seaport and harbour-building in Minden at Fachhochschule Bielefeld between 1968 and 1972, became a Diplom of Engineer (Dipl. Ing. grad) in 1972. Her continued his studies at Technical University of Hanover as Engineer and Pedagogics between 1972 and 1974. He continued his studies at Georg-August-University Göttingen jurisprudence between 1974 and 1976 and continues his studies at HfbK Braunschweig as fine artist between 1976 and 1978. He continued his academic research in empirical sociology of organization, Non-Governmental-Organizations and Non-Profit-Organization especially in the production and distribitution of culture at Bremen University as an external Research Scholar 1990-1998, gaining a doctor of philosophy (Dr. phil.) in 2000.

In the 1975 his masterpiece and diplom-opus from 1972 as engineer and designer of „the sea-port and sport-and-shelter-harbour of the Isle of Norderney“ was build by the State of Lower Saxonia and the Federal Republic of Germany, the socalled „Dietmar-Moews-Port“.

Patrick Garland

Patrick Garland is a theatre, television and film director and writer. He has twice been Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre bewteen 1981 and 1985 and from 1990 and 1994 and worked for the BBC. He directed the revival of My Fair Lady on Broadway in the early 1980's with Rex Harrison about whom he wrote The Incomparable Rex. He directed his own play Brief Lives based on John Aubrey with Roy Dotrice and in a revival with Michael Williams and directed Eileen Atkins in A Room of One's Own, the play Garland based on Virginia Woolf's book. Recently Garland directed Simon Callow in The Mystery of Charles Dickens by Peter Ackroyd and Joan Collins in Full Circle by Alan Melville(writer).

He directed the film of Ibsen's A Doll's House with Claire Bloom and worked with Alan Bennett, directing the original production of Forty Years On as well being one of the directors of Bennett's Talking Heads for television.

E-type pronoun

The pronoun is assumed to take on a distinctive non-quantificational reading just in case it [c-commands] an indefinite, embodying a define meaning equivalent to the donkey that x owns, the donkey or that donkey. Such accounts tend to encounter a [uniqueness problem] with respect to models in which mappings from farmers to donkeys is one-to-many, because of the uniqueness presupposition of the definite.

Brandon Bochenski

Brandon Bochenski, #10 (born April 4, 1982) rookie ice hockey player with the Ottawa Senators of the NHL.

Born in Blaine, Minnisota he was Ottawa's second draft pick in the seventh round of the 2001 entry draft(223rd overall), 26th overall. He currently plays the right wing on a line with Bryan Smolinski and Peter Schaefer.

Bochenski led the USHL in goals and was second in points in the 2000-01 season. That June, he was drafted by the Senators. He may have been drafted sooner, had he and a friend not been accused of producing counterfeit money.

He went on to play for the University of North Dekota, where he finished second in the nation in scoring with 60 points (27 goals, 33 assists), and was named WCHA rookie of the year. In his final season at UND, Bochenski was named Sports Illustrated's "On Campus Player of the Year." He led North Dakota in goals, assists, points, power-play goals, short-handed goals and was named first-team All American.

Bochenski joined the Binghamton Senators of the AHL in 2004-05 after leaving the University of North Dakota a year early. He played on a line with playmaking center Jason Spezza, who complemented his game immensely. He enjoyed a successful rookie season with the Binghamton in 2004-05 being named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and leading all first-year players with 70 points (34 goals, 36 assists) in 75 games.

At the beginning of the 2005-2006 season of the NHL, Bochenski had great success in training camp and in eight pre-season games, playing on a line with former linemate Jason Spezza and star scorer Dany Heatley. However, the pressure of being on the top line of one of the top teams in the league apparently effected Bochenski once the regular season began, and despite the maintained success of Spezza and Heatley, Bochenski failed to live up to expectations, producing only one goal and three assists in ten games. He was sent back to Binghamton to retrieve his game.

However, because of an injury to Martin Havlat, Bochenski was called back up to play in Ottawa. Without the pressure of playing on the top line, Bochenski flourished. To date, has 13 points in 17 games (6 goals, 7 assists), including a hat trick against the Florida Panthers.

Natural singing

Natural singing is the act of producing musical sounds with the voice in a pure natural way. These sounds are vibrating naturally and the sound is warm and totally relaxed.

This natural singing has been discouvered at the university of Ghent ( Belgium ) and Leiden ( Netherlands ) about 1970.

The natural singing is the result of holding the diaphagm low and large as long as possible with a wide open belly.

This natural breathing is the ordinary breathing of a healthy person in the most relaxed position, laying down. ( some people call it the baby-breath but that baby-breath is too fast )

The difference between natural singing and speech is the vibrato.

We can speek on different tunes like we can sing on different tunes, but the vibrato makes the only real difference, the real contrast.

Air is not expelled with the diaphragm but the diaphragm is hold down with the muscles of the belly ( abdomen ) and the belt.

Someone who sings naturally is called a natural singer or a singer.

All the others shrill, shout, yell, scream, squeal, cry or bark, caused by pushing on expiration, expelling the air.

A true natural singer balances the head and the breast resonance to get a complete voice sound.

Together with an adapted diction for singers every word can be understood by the audience.

A soar throat is the result of bad singing, but natural singers don't know this frequent voice problem because of the health of their voices.

Anyone who can speak can sing, since in many respects singing is merely sustained speech. It can be informal and just for pleasure, for example, singing in the shower; or it can be very formal, such as singing done professionally in a performance or in a recording studio.

Singing is often done in a group, such as a choir, and may be accompanied by musical instruments, a full orchestra, or a band. Singing with no instrumental accompaniment is usually called a cappella.

Natural singing in a combination with dancing is impossible because of the shivering diaphragm.

The film industry makes us believe that is possible but they record the two disciplines at different times.

Léon-Bernard Giot

Léon-Bernard Giot (March 4, 1956) is a Belgian baritone singer, organist and conductor. Born Léon-Bernard Mathilde Giot, he is usually known as Bernardo Giotto.

Giot was born in Ghent in the Department of East Flanders ( Belgium ) and showed talent for the piano from his early childhood. He founded several choirs and orchestras at the age of 15. Three years later he was sent, on a year-long study to St Niklaas with the virtuoso soprano Marie-Thérèse Maesen. Giot's first notable performances, date from this time. After his return home he made a concert tour. A concert in Brussels brought the young man overnight fame in the whole of Europe.

In 1975, Giot got a job as breathing coach at the Belgian Royal Federation of Music, where he stayed until 2005. He performed as baritone solo and at the Choir of the European Community in most of the European countries.

Giot worked as conductor of choirs and orchestras he founded in Ghent, Brussels and Luxemburg and he founded and conducted the biggest international choir meeting : The Annuel Christmas-Choir-Festival in Ghent.

Léon-Bernard Giot was a prolific breathing and singing teacher whose list of pupils amounts to over 2500 persons, man and women, boys and girls. Some of them became famous singers too. Better known today, however, are his manuscripts about his methods for a natural breathing to protect the voice as much as possible, all written for his students, which have established a secure place in singers environment.

Though his lack of time, as he played the organ and sang in more than 12 different churches all over the country, Giot founded The International School for Singing and Breathing in Melle near Ghent. He was greatly admired as he was the youngest conductor and the youngest organ player of the whole country at the age of 15.

Giot was a noted baritone, and invented a unique singers diction adapted to the natural breathing. He discouvered the exact difference between speaking and singing : the natural vibrato. He was also a significant conductor, being one of the first to refuse any recording of his concerts.

Illegal Alien Mexican National Narcotics Traffickers

Since the late 1980's/early 1990's, narcotics trafficking organizations headed and comprised of Mexican nationals became the dominant force of the illicit drug trade in the United States. Mexican trafficking organizations usurped control from Colombian trafficking organizations, primarily as a result of Mexico's geographic proximity to the U.S. and a greater presence of Mexicans residing, legally and illegally, in a number of communities in the U.S.

In the early 1980's, cocaine emerged as a drug of choice for many Americans and its use became prevalent through-out the socio-economic spectrum. Initially, Colombians were responsible for growing, processing and distributing cocaine in the U.S., but their strongholds were limited to South Florida and New York along with other metropolitan areas that housed smaller Colombian populations. As demand for larger quantities of cocaine began to take hold in the U.S. in the late 1980's, Colombian traffickers came to rely on Mexican organizations to assist with the transportation and distribution of cocaine through-out the U.S. After a period of time, powerful Mexican cartels realized that they could more effectively handle the smuggling and distribution of ton-quantities of cocaine in the U.S.

Colombians had been limited to predominantly a Caribbean smuggling route into South Florida. Mexicans, on the other hand, had access to an expansive 2,000 mile border with the Southwestern U.S. and then a vast network of Mexican immigrants residing in major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and Chicago, and later through-out a number of large and small communities in all corners of the U.S.

The ample number of Mexican nationals residing in the U.S. occurred as a result of a bombardment of migrant workers in search of higher-paying jobs and a better life for themselves and their families, but the increased Mexican presence also brought with it and large number of Mexican narcotics traffickers that came to the U.S. with one specific purpose - to sell drugs an earn a significant profit in doing so. Drug statistics estimate that twenty-three metric tons of cocaine is smuggled into the U.S. annually, two-thirds of which enter across the U.S./Mexican border. Mexican black-tar heroin, which is produced in Mexico and smuggled into the U.S. predominantly by Mexican nationals is the most frequently consumed heroin in the western and Midwestern U.S. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) estimates that 80% of the methamphetamine in the U.S. is either manufactured in Mexico or is manufactured in the U.S. by Mexican national drug traffickers operating under the direction of Mexican drug kingpins. These illicit drug sales in the U.S. have resulted in a boom of revenues for Mexico. In fact, after petroleum revenues, the second biggest revenue source for Mexico comes from illegal alien Mexican nationals sending money into Mexico from the U.S., and a significant part of those monies are illicit drug proceeds.

In the last ten years, U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) indicate that the percentage of Latin American non-U.S. citizens that were federally arrested in the U.S. for illegal drug offenses has increased from the low 20 percentile to over 30 percent as of 2003. For example, in 1999, regarding all federal drug arrests, 26.8% were non-U.S. citizens and 45.5% were Hispanic. Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again

Dr. Drew Pinkskey's book Cracked is a fictional account based on the lives of past addict patients seen through drug rehab at [Las Encinas Medical Center] in Southern California.

Dr. Pinskey, the host of the popular radio show loveline has dedicated his life to improving the lives of addicts and people in need of all ages. Through his book, he was able to show common challenges addicts face going through drug rehabilitation.

By basing characters on common cliches of steriotypical addicts, Pinskey encapsulates what drug rehabilatation and addiction is like from the core.

Lag compensation

Lag compensation is an internet gaming term for mechanisms employed in a game to compensate for the natural latency clients will have towards a server. Lag compensation is most oftenly found in first person shooters as a means of keeping the client from having to "lead" bullets and shots by any additional amount than they should have to. Without lag compensation, a client must look at their latency (or ping), then guess how far ahead of a moving target they must fire in order to hit a target. A consequence of this is that a player with low latency has to lead very little in comparison to a player with higher latency. This is generally found to be unfair, as players who play on the same network of a server can have a significant advantage. Today, lag compensation has become common place in online first person shooters.

While lag compensation is a crucial part of a successful online game, it is rarely ever mentioned in a game manual (nor is the lack of it).

While a multitude of games use lag compensation, Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are of the most documented. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are benchmarks for having high quality lag compensation code. These two game engines employ most of these mechanisms, but not all of them.

The Actual "Lead Time" Without Lag Compensation

The actual "lead time" one must lead a target without any lag compensation is generally accepted to be the player's ping. However, the amount of true latency can vary significantly and in practice players must lead by more than just their ping. If one doesnt know about network lag and simply shoots at their target, they will rarely hit their target if it moves.

If client-side extrapolation (see below) is used, and the extrapolation time is equal to their ping, then a client shouldn't have to lead at all. However, having high client-side extrapolation leads to players warping a lot, and their true position can be difficult to find if they constantly change directions.

Common Mechanisms

  • Online first person shooters generally are written using client-server architecture. This means one computer becomes the server unto which other players join it and play off of it. Clients send information of what they are doing to the server, and the server sends information of what is occuring in the game back to all the clients. If this is written correctly, laggy clients will not have any affect on the delays other players see when they play the game. All of this is done at pre-set frames per second.
  • The most common mechanism for lag compensation is to attach a "frame number" to every state that a client sends the server and every state that the server sends to a client. The server, keeping a history of what previously happened, then evaluates the states it recieves to determine if the client hit another client or not. Due to memory constraints, a maximum "unlag time" is given before a state is considered "too old" to unlag. Note that this does not mean all events wait on the slowest player. This is the most complicated mechanism and is an umbrella to all the other mechanisms. Another commonly used alternative is to simply take packets as they are given, and assign a time to them based on the client's ping. The problem with this occurs when a client's ping fluxuates.
  • Client side lag compensation is where actions that occur because of a client are rendered or taken into account by the client without waiting for a reaction from the server. This is left alone to things that do not affect gameplay. An example of this are bullet holes or blood, which do not affect gameplay, but occur as the client shoots without waiting for the server to send to the client "draw bullet hole here".
  • Extrapolation is used on both the server and client side to fill in holes when packets are not recieved from a client or from the server. This is a means of saying "this thing moved at this speed", and then multiplying it out as time progresses if nothing is sent to say "it stopped" or "it changed direction". This is commonly used on the client side of lag compensation to estimate exactly where the server thinks a player is, so as to minimize how far back lag compensation must be done on the server side of things. Likewise, its impossible for everything to be done in real time, so extrapolation is also used to fill in holes between the minimum rate that states are changed. Extrapolation is the main cause for a phenomena known as "warping", where a player appears to be in a place he isn't, and then is instantly teleported to where he should be.
  • Interpolation is a buffering done by the client to smooth out gameplay and packets that are recieved by it out of order. Then, the client takes an average of what has happened during that time before displaying it to the player. Without interpolation, moving objects would appear to "stop motion" as they moved. Interpolation creates an additional lag on the client equal to the buffer length. The server takes this into account however. Interopolation uses extrapolation to compensate for missing packets.
  • One flaw of higher extrapolation and interpolation is that a player who changes directions very fast will appear to be able to change directions much faster than they actually are. An example is in Half-Life, where a player whom tapped strafe left and right very quickly would be almost standing still to the player actually doing it. However, to all the other players, the person would appear to move about a few feet left, and then very quickly be a few feet to the right, and so on.
  • Lag shielding is a mechanism that delays the effects of being shot (or lowers or removes them) for clients of higher lag. The idea for this is that it gives players of higher ping a chance to react after they are shot. Another varient of this was to wait for the victim client to catch up to the same frame number, to see if they in fact shot first, before applying damage. This is the cause of the most stigma between players who are used to low pings, and players who are used to playing against players who have lower pings. Players who are used to others having low pings generally do not expect their weapon to be less effective against a certain individual, so they feel that players with higher pings have an advantage or simply ruin the gameplay. Players who are used to other players having lower pings than them get frustrated when they constantly lose because of the impossibilty of beating others. Lag shielding helped in the past, but is no longer a common lag compensation mechanism due to the widespread use of broadband.
  • Another mechanism is for higher ping players to be more likely to hit a target at a distance than lower ping players. This mechanism, however, is most likely a by-product of the implementation of lag compensation rather than an intentional feature. This form of lag compensation is more like a gameplay compensation for higher ping players being at disadvantage in close combat rather than an attempt to make hit detection more accurate. A high ping player simply cannot win in close combat without lag shielding, where simple reflexes win over actual accuracy.
  • Lag compensation can be implemented among many ways. One is where only bullets that the client says hit actually count (regardless of if the server thinks it hit or not). Another is where only bullets that hit where the server says it hits actually count (regardless of if the client thinks it hit or not). A third is where only bullets that the client say hit and the server can confirm count. Finally, lag compensation has also been implemented as a combination of the second and third, where confirmed hits and hits the server reads count. All of these ways of implementing lag compensation have drastic effects on gameplay and the ability to prevent cheaters. If the first method is used, then the game is very vulnerable to cheaters whom will simply fake what bullets count or not. If the second method is used, bullets can have a tendency to miss moving targets at a distance very easily. If the first or third method is used, a player can literally walk into a stream of bullets and kill the player firing without getting hurt if the player firing the stream of bullets has a higher ping. If the fourth method is used, players with higher pings have a higher probabilty if hitting targets than those with lower pings.

Cheating

Lag compensation mechanisms have also been the cause of game exploitations and cheating. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 imposes a default interpolation of 100 milliseconds (0.1 seconds). In older versions of Half-Life, players could cheat by exploiting the fact that there were few range limitations to what cl_interp (the variable for the interpolation length) was set to. When interpolation is set to a high number, moving objects will be acclerated much faster than they are actually moving. In Half-Life, this meant players would warp through walls if they starting moving towards one. When interpolation is low, stop-motion begins to occur, but it also gives more accurate pictures of what is happening to a client. Since then, limits on what interpolation can be sent to have been set. Additionally, a Half-Life cheat known as the "speed hack" exploited the lag compensation system of the game to allow a player to move extremely fast.

High Ping Kickers

Since higher ping players increase the amount of inconsistancies that surround them in comparison to other players, many servers have employed scripts which kick players from the server based on their ping. These are known as High Ping Kickers (or HPK), and have different methods of execution. Some kick a player even if they lag only for a little bit. Others only kick if they lag when they first join. Ones that kick a player if they lag excessively for a little bit generally were written to combat "speed hackers" as described above. However, thanks to modern anti-cheat technology such as VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) and Punkbuster, actual "speed hackers" are very rare. Another reason for an HPK that kicks players if they lag for a little bit is to improve the quality of the gameplay for other players when another player has a poor quality connection. In games such as Battlefield 2 where one player drives around other players, a laggy player would make it difficult for the passengers of the vehicle to aim correctly due to warping. High Ping Kickers that boot players for joining with a high ping are usually written with the intention of booting players who use dial-up or live in another country.

Despite these logical reasons for using a HPK, many server administrators use them because of the belief high ping players make their server lag (which, as previously described, shouldn't be true).

The flaw of a high ping kicker is that rarely does a dial-up user pose a problem on a server thanks to lag compensation. A dial-up user or even a user who doesnt live near a highly populated area deserves the right to play what they paid for, and not everybody has a low ping connection available to them. This is especially true for those in more remote areas. Additionally, every broadband connection will lag inexplicably for short periods of time. High ping kickers have seen rampent use in several modern games, and they by no means make the game friendly to new players and those new to online gaming.

Please reconsider for the following reasons: That wiki was written by a member of Valve, thus he IS the source that other "sources" get their information from. That specific article has been cross-reference several times by official sites. I doubt Valve would put wrong information on their developer website. Notice you cannot edit that private wiki without logging in. Additional information was pertained from personal experiences (mainly the High Ping Kicker part) and by reading multiple sources of documentation that have become common knowledge (such as what "ping" is). The "lag shield" was from a conversation in an actual game itself, but definately exhisted as a "one bullet" effect. In other words, I'm some what of an expert on the matter myself, although the information is of course subject to change if it is incorrect. I wrote that draft all in one sitting so of course some of it is probably incorrect or improperly named. -writer
A number of the sources you have just quoted count as original research and cannot be relied upon for an article. The problem with Wiki's as souces is that a true Wiki can be modified by anyone. The Wiki is also written about a particular product, with the implication that the term is a marketing term of a particular company.
You definitely need to reduce the article to that which can be supported by documents from trustworthy sources. If the Wiki you quote isn't operated as a Wiki, or you can give a reference to a specific edit, that only contains information from the primary expert and which is generally considered the authrative source, someone may create it. However, I suspect the information is probably better placed in one or more general articles (about games technology or the particular game). The problem I come across getting sources is that Half-Life, as I mentioned in the article, is the most documented. What I didn't mention is that I'm not even sure other engines have been documented. Since Half-Life is an engine, a lot of games have been written as either mods or commercial products using the same engine. Interpolation and extrapolation are also statistical terms and fit in the sense that Valve has provided. Additionally, I dont think there is any source more official than that article I have provided. Some sites either speculate about other games or the same game, or quote the same article. Other sites just say extremely useful things like "cl_lc - turns lag compensation on or off". If one download's the Source SDK off of steam, then goes to official documentation, they will be brought to the very same Wiki. Perhaps this kind of information just plain isn't fit for Wikipedia given the nature of it.
Also this probably isn't the place for this but the article interp seems just plain wrong. They used the Half-Life variable "cl_interp" and took it as "interpretation", then made an incorrect assumption as to what it meant. "Interp" honestly shouldn't be in an encyclopedia of any kind, as I've personally only heard that term as a reference to "cl_interp". -writer

GWR 6959 Class 6989 Wightwick Hall

The History of Modified Hall Class Locomotive 6989 Wightwick Hall - Jeff Jackson Hon Chairman 6989 Restoration Group.

In 1944 F. W. Hawksworth of the Great Western Railway introduced an improved version of the Hall class 4-6-0 introduced by his predecessor, C. B. Collett. The locomotive was classified as 6959 Modified Hall Class 5MT 4-6-0. Changes to the 5900 Hall engines were; plate frame 'one piece' mainframes (the originals were made in two sections joined together behind the cylinders), plate frame bogie, separately cast cylinders and a larger 3-row super-heater and header regulator. New flush-sided tenders were paired with the engines, although these soon became swapped round as visits to the works for repair took place. 6989 ran with at least 10 different tenders and we have pictures of her in services with both Hawksworth flat sided and Collet flare sided types.

The Hall class was a development of G. J. Churchyard’s 1907 Saint class, so the original design was now on its third wind. In all 71 Modified Halls were built between 1944 and 1949, of which 6 are in preservation. At the time of writing, 7927 “Willington Hall” was to be used as a donor for "Bretton Grange" and "County of Glamorgan". The rest of the Modified Halls were cut up and scrapped.

“Wightwick Hall”, was built at Swindon under Swindon Works Lot Number 366 and was completed on 25th March 1948. She entered service the same month with British Railways Western Region based out of Hereford, to replace one of the Saints that was withdrawn. She was the second last steam locomotive to be commissioned by the Great Western Railway Company before British Railways took over under nationalisation. She cost £9,686 to build, including the tender.

We have reliable eyewitness evidence from Angus Brymer, who was a cleaner at Hereford when she arrived new ex- Swindon, that 6989 left Swindon Works liveried in lined brunswick green. The following account sheds some light as to why she was not in BR black, as might have been expected. ((1) Around February 1948 BR gave instructions to Swindon that by the end of that week no more green paint was to be made in the Swindon Paint Factory. Five hundred gallons of brunswick green was hurriedly made to beat the deadline and stored in unlabelled 5-gallon drums. Hence, when BR WR engines needed repainting and the drums were opened, they were found to be green and not the expected black. Having opened the drums they had to be used!) We have a picture taken in September 1956 by Dick Blenkinsop at Leamington Spa, where he confirms she was in BR black. Most of the pictures we have of her show her sporting a smoke box number and shed plate, but we have one taken at Paddington without these and showing the number painted on the buffer beam in Great Western style. Our conclusion is that she left Swindon Works in green, was repainted black at the first or second heavy general and back to green at the fourth and last heavy general repair in March 61. We have a photograph of her on Swindon Shed in brunswick green that we believe was taken after the heavy general repair of 6 March 1961. We do not know during what period she used the buffer beam number livery, other than to surmise it would have been during one of her green liveried periods.

”Wightwick Hall” covered 640,645 miles in 16 years of service. She operated in an area mainly bounded by Cardiff, Weston Super Mare, Banbury and London, working in the fast freight and express passenger role. She spent 10 years working out of Hereford, 4 years out of Worcester and finally 2 out of Gloucester Horton Road. We have sightings of her in most of these areas. Her career was not without drama. When based at Hereford she was working the 11:55 Hereford to Paddington train on 4th June 1956 when she went over a 15mph speed restriction at 45mph with no apparent ill effects! I expect the crew did not get off so lightly.

During November and December of 1959, when allocated to Worcester shed, 6989 alternated with sister engine 6984 “Owsden Hall” on the “Cambrian Coast Express” between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton. “Owsden Hall” is also preserved and is under restoration at the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. We are informed by Geoff Peverill, who was a loco fitter at Worcester, that 6989 substituted on top runs for failed Castles on several occasions. This is endorsed by David Taylor of Bromyard who uncovered a published article (2) relating the occasion in May 1961 when she did a very fast run from Oxford to Paddington of 58 minutes - including a speed restriction running into Paddington.

6989 regularly worked the “Cathedrals Express”. We were able to borrow the original wooden pattern for “the Cathedrals Express” headboard and had a new one cast. We have also located “the Cambrian Coast Express” headboard pattern and hope to borrow it to make a copy.

She often worked into Wembley on football or hockey specials. During the dying days of steam in September 1962, 6989 was taken off a goods train to replace the failed D1000 on a Birmingham to Paddington express.

Eventually, the shed was unable to keep her gainfully employed and she was withdrawn in June 1964.She was sold to Woodham Brothers Scrap Yard at Barry in South Wales on 17th July 1964,arriving there during the August. We are led to understand that she arrived there under her own steam with other locos in tow. She then spent 13 years 5 months languishing in the salt air of Barry, before being rescued by the Quainton Railway Society. She was the 88th engine to leave Barry to go into preservation. Mike Lawrence Low Loaders moved her to Quainton. Mike recollects she was the 5th of over 80 engines he liberated from Barry.

The “Wightwick Hall” Appeal Fund was launched in 1975 and by 1977 had raised the money to buy the engine and a Collett pattern tender that was last coupled with 7927 “Willington Hall”. The tender arrived at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre on 24th July 1977. “Wightwick Hall” finally arrived at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre Quainton on 9th January 1978.

Restoration continues and the current status can be found on the 6989 Restoration Group Website (www.wightwick-hall-6989.com.

(3)The locomotive is named after Wighwick Hall which is located near Wolverhampton. The hall was built in the 17th century. It is currently a special needs school. Notable owners were Sir Alfred Hickman, MP and industrialist and Theodore Mander the Paint Manufacturer.

But that never stopped a marketroid. Google now shows products like bible covers and athletic shoes claiming to be made of Corinthian leather.

As a Child in catholic parochial school for Mothers day we filled out a card similar to a Christmas or birthday card for recognition of mothers day. Called a "Spiritual Bouquet for Mother". There were five categories we could fill in an amount that we would perform each item. "Masses, Holy Communions, Rosaries, Ejaculations, and Visits to the Blessed Sacrament". I chose to offer five repetitions of each except for the Rosaries which I had promised two. This word has so much negative baggage attached to it. Using it in an act of religious reverence seems quite contrary in the secular use of the word.

VOC ship Rooswijk

The Rooswijk was a ship belonging to the VOC (Dutch East India Company) that sank in 1740.

History

The Rooswijk was built for the VOC "Chamber of Amsterdam" in 1737. On January 9 1740, during its second journey to the east, it sank on the sand bank of Goodwin Sands, about 8 km from the British mainland. There were no known survivors. At the time, it was captained by Daniel Ronzieres.

Recovery

In December 2005, it was made public that between May and September of that year a team led by Rex Cowan had recovered some of the ship and its contents. This was done in secrecy to avoid attracting looters. More work is planned for the 2006 diving season.

Lying at a depth of about 24 m, the Rooswijk had been discovered by an amateur diver in 2004. It is one of hundreds of wrecks on the treacherous Goodwin Sands.

Artifacts recovered included approximately one thousand bars of silver, gold coins and a mustard jar. When the VOC was disbanded in 1798, its possessions fell to the Batavian Republic, the legal successor of which is the current Dutch State, which therefore is entitled to the objects from the Rooswijk. They were presented to Junior minister of Finance Joop Wijn in Plymouth on December 11 2005.

TYF

TYF is a unsigned hip-hop group made up of two young white boys. Commack, New York is the town that they are boasting about in their songs saying "Not the hood", meaning, not the ghetto. Dolla Bill, or Gill, said that they are trying to prove that not only African-American people who grew up in rough neighborhoods could be part of the "Rap game". Stunna, or Cameron, said that he remembers and experiences his fellow classmates making fun of him when he wears his baggy clothes and say things like "Hey Cameron, your a white boy from Commack, get over it." His follow-up was, "I don't understand why people do this just because we're white. Yeah we know we're not black, yeah we know we're not from the hood, so we're not gonna rap about that stuff. We can rap about other things like kris-kross or lil bow-bow did. I just wanna prove that we can do it. Just to show all of the people that doubted us." They are currently in the process of making a new demo-tape to send to about eight record lables. Dolla Bill expects this to be done by mid-spring of 2006.

I've resurrected the text, as once you admit it is copyright (the original edit summary was plain wrong) and comply with the GFDL requirements on listing copyright owners and update history, it does appear to be copyright compatible with Wikipedia. However, my feeling is that it won't pass WP:CORP, and certainly doesn't pass WP:NPOV. It is also about a future event, which I believe is not normally permitted. Shane Evans

Shane Evans was born on April 26, 1971. Like his other band members, he grew up in Stockbridge, Georgia. In the "Events" section for November 1957, it is stated that the canine "Laika" is launched into space via the Sputnik spacecraft on 11/03/57 and "kept alive for several days in space with a sphisticated life support system", while in the "Deaths" section, the same canine's demise is reported as November 4, 1957 (the very next day).

Rodney (Gypsy) Smith

Rodney (Gypsy) Smith, 1860-1947,British evangelist. He conducted evangelistic campaigns in the United States and Great Britain for over 70 years. He was a contemporary of Fanny Crosby and G. Campbell Morgan.

Born in a gypsy tent six miles northeast of London, at Epping Forest, he received no education. The family made a living selling baskets, tinware and clothespegs. His father, Cornelius, and his mother, Mary (Polly) Welch, provided a home that was happy in the gypsy wagon. Rodney was child when his mother died from smallpox. The Smith children numbered four girls and two boys (Rodney was the fourth child).

Cornelius was in and out of jail for various offenses. Here he heard the gospel from a prison chaplain and later he and his brothers were converted at a mission meeting. From 1873 on, "The Converted Gypsies" were involved in numerous evaelistic efforts.

Rodney's conversion as a sixteen-year-old came as a result of a combination of things. The witness of his father, the hearing of Ira Sankey sing, the visit to the home of John Bunyan in Bedford all contributed. He taught himself to read and write and began to practice preaching. He would sing hymns to the people he met and was known as the singing gypsy boy.

At a convention at the Christian Mission (later called the Salvation Army) headquarters in London, William Booth noticed the gypsies and realized that young Rodney. On June 25, 1877, he accepted the invitation of Booth to be an evangelist with and for the Mission. For six years (1877-1882), he served on street corners and mission halls.

He was married on December 17, 1879 to Annie E. Pennock, one of his converts. They served in several assignments and saw membership rise to hundreds, then a thousand. By June 1882, great crowds were coming and the work was growing. A gold watch was given him and about $20.00 was presented to his wife by the warm-hearted members of a local congregation. Acceptance of these gifts was a breach of the rules and regulations of the Salvation Army, and for this, he was dismissed from the Army. His eight assignments with the Salvation Army had produced 23,000 decisions and his crowds were anywhere up to 1,500.

He began to traveled extensively around the world on evagelistic crusades, drawing crowds numbering in the hundreds of thousands throughout his life. Busy as he was, he never grew tired of visiting gypsy encampments whenever he could on both sides of the Atlantic. Gipsy never wrote a sermon out for preaching purposes. Smith wrote several books and could sing as well as he preached. Sometimes he would interrupt his sermon and burst into song. Although he was a Methodist, ministers of all denominations loved him. It is said that he never had a meeting without conversions.

Duing World War I he ministered under the Y.M.C.A. auspices to the English troops in France, often visiting the front lines. As a result of this, King George VI made him a member of the Order of the British Empire.

Gipsy Smith's wife, Annie, died in 1937 at the age of 79 while he was in America. Front page headlines in 1938 carried the news of the 78-year-old widower marrying Mary Alice Shaw on her 27th birthday. This, of course, brought some criticism. But it was a good marriage, for she helped him in his meetings, sang, did scretarial work, and later nursed him when his health failed.

Stricken by a heart attack, he died on the Queen Mary on a cruise in America, age 87. It was estimated that this was his 45th crossing of the Atlantic. His funeral was held August 8, 1947 in New York City. A memorial with a plaque was unveiled on July 2, 1949 at Mill Plain, Epping Forest, England, his birthplace. So ends the life of one who once said, "I didn't go through your colleges and seminaries. They wouldn't have me...but I have been to the feet of Jesus were the only true scholarship is learned."

Hey Now!

"Hey Now!" is a Larry Sanders Show saying, which has been adopted as a greeting by Howard Stern and his fans.

In its original Larry Sanders Show incarnation, it was spoken by Hank Kingsley (played by Jeffrey Tambour) and was directly derided as an affectation. Its adoption by Stern and fans is a direct and humorous tribute to the Larry Sanders Show, and has very much evolved into a part of the Howard Stern experience.

During Howard Stern's final terrestrial/WXRK broadcast on December 16th 2005, he whipped his live audience into a frenzy by greeting them with "Can I get a Hey Now!" and pointing the microphone at the crowd.

The Homeless Game

The Homeless Game is/was a frequent Howard Stern Show feature. An interviewer (formerly Stuttering John) would ask homeless people basic questions, and the show regulars (and, usually, call-in guests) would place bets on whether or not the homeless people could answer these simple questions.

Several variants of the game were also played, in particular where the same sorts of basic questions were asked of Playboy Playmates or female strippers.

A classic question asked of a stripper was "What is a pickle made from?", to which she replied that "A pickle is marinated from a grape".

Church of Christ in Thailand

The Church of Christ in Thailand was founded in 1934 as the "Church in Siam" with the express intent of forming a single ecumenical denomination to include all Protestant churches in Thailand. Other than a small number of American Baptist and British Churches of Christ congregations, all of the original member churches were originally Presbyterian congregations. The C.C.T. originally had seven districts, six geographical and one ethnic Chinese. Except for a brief period during World War II, Presbyterian missionary influence remained predominant in the C.C.T. until the late 1970s. Since 1990, the denomination has experience a major demographic shift. Apestorm

A slang expression, normally used as a noun, to express the feeling of extreme anger.

The literal definition is of feeling like 'an ape during a thunderstorm', and is used to describe someone who is violently angry and irritated. In some ways this word can be seen as a similie, reflecting the behavior of a angry ape during bad weather onto the subject. It is also believed that it could be an ellision of the slang nouns 'ape-shit' and 'shit-storm'. However, many feel this is a sort of back-ronym of the word, and not its original genesis. Common uses of the noun appear in informal conversation. Examples include "He threw such a terrible apestorm when he found out" or "There's going to be an apestorm when they get back".

Apestorm is an emerging word used increasingly by younger speakers, especially in the South of England. It is also regarded as non-vulgar and socially acceptable.

Born in 1988, Lawler became involved in various heavy metal acts at a young age. After being kicked out of "that crap band, SteelLined" for his "extra curricular activities", such as his involvement in better music, such as acid techno, braindance and the like.

Along with Jix, their outlandish musical styles and off-stage behaviour have earned the two the recognition they do not quite deserve. The off-tempo beats and dance-fuelled synths have somehow merged with the style of fellow DJ, Jix to become what is today known as "that Delta IX sound."

Delta IX's first real exposure to the Irish dance scene was a decent party at Johnny Taylor's house circa 2005. After their "set", which consisted of them playing their own original material, some obscure AFX, and a pinch of Cylob, people kept hassling them for more tunes. After this warm welcome to the scene, they produced more original material, and are currently in the beta stage of releasing a dozen song demo.

The young Hungarian composer Tímea Dragony was born in 1976 in Nyíregyháza, Hungary. She visited the Zoltán Kodály Elementary School of music and was a member of the famous Cantemus children choir, which travelled all over the world to give concerts and participate in competitions. After this she went to the secondary schools of music in Nyíregyháza and Debrecen to study the piano, musical theory and composition. In Debrecen she continued her studies at the College of Music where she added choir conducting to her curriculum. At the age of 20 she moved to Budapest and was accepted at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music to study composition with György Orbán. Also she attended master classes with: Gyula Fekete, Michael Jarell, Johannes Kretz and Marco Stroppa in Hungary. Cristobal Hallfter, Manfred Trojan, Mauricio Sotello and Tomas Marco in Spain and Noel Lee in France.

Her works were performed in many different countries. Her “Capriccio” for flute had its premiere in Rome and her flute piece “Extremas Emociones” was performed in Budapest, Frankfurt, Madrid and Leipzig. For her final exam at the Liszt Ferenc Academy she composed her “Violinconcerto” and the “Orchestral Songs based on Sonnets of William Shakespeare”, for this she graduated with Honours. Nowadays she regularly tours Europe with an international group of musicians, dedicated to promoting her music, with which she is able to perform her new compositions.

Recyclops

Recyclops was a competetor on the first series of Robot Wars. Named Recyclops because it was made of recycled material. The robot was dome shaped and had a flipper that was shaped like a tongue. They got past the gauntlet and the trail and beat Scrapper in the semi-final. They went through to the grand final melee after they beat Mortis on a judge's decision. In the grand final, after Cunning Plan and TRACIE went out, the other robots ganged up on Recyclops, who were eventually forced to retire with a broken chain.

Background History

Anton grew up in the ghetto of Herndon, Virginia. He lived with his 12 brothers and 9 sisters. By the age of 8, Anton was able to do calculus in his head as quickly as you and me can add 1 and 2 together to get 3. As he entered high school, he soon got ideas of grandeur and power. Instead of paying attention in class, he would draw battle plans and maps of his future empire. One day in the life of Anton, a tall girl caught his attention. But the tall girl did not return the affection that Anton felt for her, so he came up with the ultimate solution to the problem of short people. He vowed to rid the Earth of short people so that someone like him wouldn't be turned down. With Evan Davis, the protegé of Mr. T, Anton amassed an army of pink fuzzles. Together, they invaded the country of Algeria and captured all the midgets to put them in little concentration camps where they were prohibited to eat food for days at a time. No one knows why they chose Algeria, it could have been because Algeria has an extensive drug-exchange business. Today, they live there and have aerobics classes occasionally. They also have recently taken up the hobby of beating a midget with a steel club each morning.

American football player born 1946

He played quarterback in the National Football League fron 1968 to 1981 and again in 1984. He played for the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Colts. In 1971, as a member of the Lions he passed for 2,237 yards and 16 touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl that year.

In 1976, he passed for 2,191 yards and 17 touchdowns and was named the NFL's Comeback Player Of The Year.

In 1979, as a member of the Colts, he played brilliantly deapite a 5-11 record and an season-ending injury to starting quarterback Bert Jones. He passed for a career best 2,932 yards and 15 touchdowns.

He retired in 1984.

Hood to Coast Relay

The Hood to Coast Relay is a 197.2 mile road race for running teams of all abilities. It starts at the Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon and finishes at the Pacific in the town of Seaside, Oregon. Teams are generally comprised of 12 runners, each member running 3 legs of the course. The course is divided into 36 legs, each leg being between 3.8 and 7.9 miles in length. Teams generally use one or two vans to shuffle their runner's to each leg. The race attracts over a thousand teams each year, mostly running enthusiasts looking for a fun running road trip, but there are many elite teams as well consisting of some of the world's best runners - Alberto Salazar and Venuste Niyongabo have both run the relay for example.

Doctrine of inherency

A prior art reference anticipates a patent claim if it expressly or inherenty describes all of the elements in that claim. The doctrine of inherent anticipation is court-created and is somewhat inconsistent. It is counterbalance by a doctrine sometimes known as "accidental" anticipation.

In order to be anticipatory a reference must be enabling. Additionally the inherent element must be necessarily present in the prior in order for it to be found inherent. In other words, if practicing the prior art does not always result in the claimed element, then it is not inherent in the reference.

Quebec Seperatism

The movement in Quebec, supported by the political party Bloc Québecois, for Quebec to seperate from Canada and become its sovereign country. In 1995 there was a referendum on the question of seperatism. The results were NO: 50.56% (2,360,717)/ YES: 49.44% (8,072). The current leader of the Bloc is Gilles Duceppe who is leading the unpopular seperatist movement.

Parapheur

A French term meaning "a folder containing correspondence to be signed" - a word yet to be invented in English. I saw it stamped on the cover of a leather folder bought second-hand in Taihiti 30 years ago. The owner had been wondering all that time as to its meaning.

Need a new category:Streams of Alaska

We need a new category for smaller streams and creeks in Alaska, much like Streams of Pennsylvania lists smaller drainages in that State.

There are several famous creeks and brooks in Alaska which don't warrant categorization as 'rivers' but are still important features in Alaska's geographic lexicon. A few of examples (which may or may not exist, since I didn't research these) would be Ship Creek and Campbell Creek in Anchorage, the Noyes Slough and Goldstream Creek in Fairbanks and Lemon Creek in Juneau. Each of these citations, as it happens, also has some historic importance besides being locally significant waterways.

There appears to be a copyright licensing conflict here. Loosely coupled cryptographic system

This is a proposal for a cryptographic system that would allow anyone to use the same password across different servers and not worry about one server using their password to login to their account on another server. I am going to demonstrate this with an example. Assume the two servers in question are AOL and Earthlink (ISP's).


Lets define some words for this demonstration.


RA1 = A random, long string that varies randomly among servers. It is publically known to everyone, never needs to change, is built into the software, and is determined by the server. RA1 denotes AOL's random string and is the same among all AOL software.


RA2 = Another random string for AOL, same properties as above, randomly different than RA1.


RA3 = Same as above (yet another, different string)


RE1 = Another random string, this one for Earthlink, determined by Earthlink, built into the Earthlink software, has the same properties as above.


RE2 = Same pattern


RE3 = Same pattern


Alice has Earthlink and AOL and wants to use the same password for both ISP's and yet not worry about anyone from one ISP stealing her password and using it to sign into the other ISP. So Alice picks the password, Bobisajerk. She types this into her AOL software. This Password then gets Hashed with a long Checksum (larger than 256 bits) and then the checksum gets Encrypted with RA1 to form ChecksumA1. ChecksumA1 then gets hashed with another checksum (256 bits) and then that checksum gets encrypted with RA2. RA2 acts as a private key (private key A1) and forms public Key A1 and Public key A1 gets encrtyped with RA3 to form Private key A2 (the procedure to form Private key A2 may vary, the idea here is that given Private key A2, no one should be able to easily determine Alice's password without performing a cryptographic attack and they shouldn't have enogh information to be able to use it to log into Earthlink even though Alice used the same password for both AOL and Earthlink. Private key A2 is never sent to the ISP, but it may be stored on Alice's computer. It does, however, give enough information to login to Alice's AOL account. Note, Public key A1 is not really a public key and the only information that may be stored on Alice's computer is Private key A2. None of the other information mentioned above, especially Alice's password, may be stored on Alice's computer. Alice does not have to store Private key A2 on her computer if she wishes, this is just so that she doesn't have to type in her password each time she logs in. Alice also doesn't have to worry about generating private key A2, all of this is done by the software, the only thing Alice has to worry about is typing in her password and if she wishes to save her password, the software will save Private key A2 and not her password. No other password Alice chooses should be able to create an identical Private key A2).


When Alice first chooses her password (to form Private key A2), Private key A2 acts as a private key to form Public Key A2. Public key A2 then acts as a private key to form Public key A3. Public Key A3 gets sent to the server and is stored on the AOL server. Public key A2 is never stored on the AOL server, but is sent to the server each time Alice logs in to confirm Alice's identity (since Public key A2 can be used to generate public key A3 and then the server can confirm that Public key A2 and Public key A3 are a key pair. However, given public key A3 it would be difficult to solve for Public key A2).


When Alice chooses her passwords for Earthlink, the same procedure happens as above, the only difference is, instead of RA1, RA2 and RA3 being used, the Earthlink software will use RE1, RE2, and RE3. Alice's password for Earthlink is the same password as her password for AOL.

Why is all this stuff useful? Allow me to demonstrate with some examples.

Example 1:

Eve works for AOL. She has enough access to access AOL's database where all the Public key A3's are stored. She steals Alice's public key A3. She still doesn't have enough information to login to Alice's AOL account (she needs public key A2 to login to Alice's account and Publiic key A2 would require a cryptographic attack to compute). Eve also doesn't have enough information to determine Alice's password or to login to Alice's Earthlink account (again, without a cryptographic attack).

Example 2:

Steve Case has much higher access than Eve. Steve Case has enough access to watch Alice when she logs in with Public key A2 and steal Public key A2 from Alice as Alice logs in. Now Steve case has enough information to login to Alice's AOL account; however, he doesn't have enough information to determine Alice's password or to login to her Earthlink account (again, without a cryptographic attack).

Also, if Alice were on a public, unencrypted Wifi with a laptop and someone stole Public key A2 (idealy you probably want to use ssl) that person would still not be able to determine Alice's password and he won't be able to login to Alice's Earthlink account.


Example 3:

Alice has two computers, computer 1 located in Washington, computer 2 located in Texas. She uses her AOL account on computer 1 and her Earthlink account on computer 2. She is currently in Texas on Earthlink and she has Private key A2 stored on computer 1 in Washington. Bob wants to get even with Alice for something so he breaks into Alice's house in Washington and steals Private key A2. Now Bob has enough information to login to Alice's AOL account; however, he does not have enough information to determine Alice's password or login to her Earthlink account (not without a cryptographic attack).

USS Chickadee (AM-59)

USS Chickadee (AM-59), an Auk class minesweeper, was launched on 20 July 1942 at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company in Bay City, Michigan; sponsored by Mrs. G. B. Coale. She was commissioned on 9 November 1942, with Lieutenant Commander G. B. Coale, USNR, in command; and reported to the Atlantic Fleet.

Between 15 February and 4 May 1943, Chickadee voyaged from Norfolk, Virginia, to Casablanca on convoy escort duty, then participated in an anti-submarine search and escorted coastal convoys until 19 June. Chickadee sailed out of Norfolk and New York as an escort for vessels sailing to Iceland or the Caribbean between 7 July 1943 and 2 March 1944.

Chickadee cleared Charleston, South Carolina, on 7 April for Milford Haven, Wales, arriving there on 12 May. For the remainder of the month, the minesweeper engaged in training exercises for the coming invasion of Europe. Arriving off Normandy on 5 June 1944, Chickadee swept fire support channels into Baie de la Seine and throughout the various assault areas along the French coast. She performed her hazardous duties under enemy shore fire on several occasions, but escaped with only minor damage from shrapnel and no casualties. The ship assisted in the rescue of survivors from USS Osprey (AM-56) and LST 133, and towed the damaged LST-133 to safety.

Chickadee continued to operate off the coast of France, with frequent visits to British ports, until 1 August 1944 when she departed Plymouth for Naples, Italy. After arriving in Italian waters on 12 August, she swept in Bonifacio Straits until 23 August when she sailed to Baie de la Cavalaire, France, for sweeping operations during the invasion of southern France. Between 29 August and 2 October, she swept the harbor of Marseilles, and conducted anti-submarine patrol off that port.

During October and November 1944, Chickadee carried out a visual search for mines south of San Remo, Italy. After a brief overhaul at Palermo, Sicily, she returned to sweeping duty throughout the Mediterranean, operating out of Cannes, Nice, Leghorn, Palermo, Malta, and Corsica. On 31 May 1945, she cleared Oran, Algeria, for Norfolk, arriving there on 15 June.

After a lengthy overhaul, Chickadee sailed from Norfolk on 18 September 1945 for the Pacific, reaching San Pedro, California, on 10 October. On 26 November, she sailed for Astoria, Oregon, where she was placed out of commission in reserve on 15 May 1946. Her classification was changed to MSF-59, on 7 February 1955.

Chickadee received two battle stars for World War II service.

The greatness of the castle was in the 16th and 17th centuries, this is when the King of Hungary Jan Zapoyla and commander Faust Socyn, stayed at the castle. Attempting to sway the Polish nobles to help him fight the Habsburgs.

One of the greatest Polish Comedies ever writen by Alexander Fredro who also stayed at the castle (ruins), "Zemsta" (Vengance) was writen and based on local accounts of former occupants.

Brandon Bochenski

Brandon Bochenski, #10 (born April 4, 1982) rookie ice hockey player with the Ottawa Senators of the NHL.

Born in Blaine, Minnisota he was Ottawa's second draft pick in the seventh round of the 2001 entry draft(223rd overall), 26th overall. He currently plays the right wing on a line with Bryan Smolinski and Peter Schaefer.

Bochenski led the USHL in goals and was second in points in the 2000-01 season. That June, he was drafted by the Senators. He may have been drafted sooner, had he and a friend not been accused of producing counterfeit money.

He went on to play for the University of North Dekota, where he finished second in the nation in scoring with 60 points (27 goals, 33 assists), and was named WCHA rookie of the year. In his final season at UND, Bochenski was named Sports Illustrated's "On Campus Player of the Year." He led North Dakota in goals, assists, points, power-play goals, short-handed goals and was named first-team All American.

Bochenski joined the Binghamton Senators of the AHL in 2004-05 after leaving the University of North Dakota a year early. He played on a line with playmaking center Jason Spezza, who complemented his game immensely. He enjoyed a successful rookie season with the Binghamton in 2004-05 being named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and leading all first-year players with 70 points (34 goals, 36 assists) in 75 games.

At the beginning of the 2005-2006 season of the NHL, Bochenski had great success in training camp and in eight pre-season games, playing on a line with former linemate Jason Spezza and star scorer Dany Heatley. However, the pressure of being on the top line of one of the top teams in the league apparently effected Bochenski once the regular season began, and despite the maintained success of Spezza and Heatley, Bochenski failed to live up to expectations, producing only one goal and three assists in ten games. He was sent back to Binghamton to retrieve his game.

However, because of an injury to Martin Havlat, Bochenski was called back up to play in Ottawa. Without the pressure of playing on the top line, Bochenski flourished. To date, has 13 points in 17 games (6 goals, 7 assists), including a hat trick against the Florida Panthers.

Exaggerated Features

Exaggerated Features (EF) is a quarterly magazine-style newsletter of the National Caricaturist Network (NCN).

Exaggerated Features often contains spotlighted artists, articles on live caricature, business and promotion, studio artwork, member-submitted caricatures, membership directory, and columns from the elected board members. The publication also tackles other forms of art and how caricature can transcend the environment of retail, theme parks, and parties, tying it to other forms of art and interests.

Fernando Tovar

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia in 1951


Even though painting was his passion since he was young, he studied Architecture at Universidad de los Andes and Javeriana in Bogota. After graduating, he became Invited Professor of Architectural Design at Universidad Javeriana. During the same period, he made several one-man exhibitions in Barranquilla and Bogota, which achieved great success .


After practicing Architecture for several years, he decided to obtain a formal training as an artist, and enrolled himself at The School of the Museum of Fine Art in Boston.

In 1986, representing Colombia, he received a second award at the V Ibero-American Biennial in Mexico. Luis Carlos Emerich, a Mexican Art Critique, wrote at Novedades Magazine:

"It should have been obvious that first prize (rather than second) would go to Fernando Tovar from Colombia, for his Flemish hyperrealist source. Chosen instead, was a flat composition, more ambiguous in its origins, a recreation of forms - a chair and table - in a form that the painting abstractly integrates. In other words, the identity of the object disappears, above all within the mass of paint on the canvas, and in strong sketches and reinvented colors that, with a personal proposition, will remind us of the poetic Tapies, of the fluid, meditative Braque, and of Pedro Coronel at his most organic. It is because of this that the Mexican Miguel Castro Leñero has received the highest honor, and why the Colombian Fernando Tovar, more brilliant and affecting, more subtle and more the "painter," has adorned irrefutable beauty to garner the best place in the eyes of the viewer. A still-life brought back from the dead by the art of painting was not awarded, but rather the cleverness of exalting a painting that must be explained, questioned and measured long before we can say if we like it."

During his years in Boston he was invited to participate in an exhibition of Colombian Artists at The Museum of Contemporary Art at the Organization of American States in Washington D.C., he was selected to participated in the Pan-American Graphic Arts Portafolio, and made several successful solo exhibitions in Colombia and the United States. Since then he resides in Miami, where he was honored as a "Distinguish Visitor" by the Commissioners of Dade County, and has continued showing his art in several exhibition through out the Americas.

The Colombian Writer and Art Critique, Eduardo Marceles Daconte eloquently described his artwork:

"If there is an outstanding ingredient in his work, it is the way he handles the light. As Caravaggio did, he focuses light in an arbitrary way, to elements he wants to emphasize. Light is not used in a passive way, but in an active manner to stimulate the senses and introduce the chiaroscuro to harmonize the composition. Tovar uses light to create an atmosphere of serene intimacy that invites you to reflect about sensuality.


In his work, the handling of the drawing plays a protagonist role. The basic scaffold of a realistic painting of this nature is a vigorous drawing that as a structure holds the chromatic faade as well as its conceptual elements. In that sense his work is a testimony of an entire mastery of painting.


In the same way his women are a tribute to the human anatomy. His Still Life, with its enormous fruits and vegetables, pays homage to nature, and is a poetic recourse to offer an optimistic vision of the world. Tovar uses a controlled range of sepia colors that gives a general tonality with an intrusion of some green or blue that because of its insularity is highlighted. His architectural background has an influence in those carefully built spaces. Columns, walls, and tile floors, where doors and windows offer an access to a sequence of spaces that in some occasion are multiplied to include the landscape of a colonial city. In those silent "interiors" you can visualize the mystery of life that palpitates in those human volumes or vegetables that rest, waiting to be discovered by the eyes of the voyager we all have inside."

Peter Norman

Peter Norman is a former Australian track star best known for winning the silver medal in the 200 metres at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. The gold and bronze medalists were Americans Tommie Smith and John Carlos, respectively. On the medal podium, during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner, Smith and Carlos, both African-Americans, famously joined in a black power salute. What is less known is that Norman, a Caucasian, donned a badge on the podium in support of their cause, the Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR). Norman is also the one who suggested that Smith and Carlos share the black gloves used in their salute; it was originally planned for Smith to don both. Today Norman lives in Melbourne and works for the Australian government, in the Department of Sport and Recreation.

Martin Szurant

Martin Szurant Born in Austria, and raised in Brooklyn ( Coney Island ), is a bright young man who plans on becoming a Plastic Surgeon. What inspired him, Nip Tuck, na just kiddin' its always been in the back of his head, the only reason he went to Baruch is because he forgot that he was supposed to become a Doctor... The real reason, when he broke his pinky when he was about 11-12 a Doctor at Coney Island Hospital kinda made it seem hopeless when he told Martin that because he broke his pinky he cant become a doctor because he wont be able to use his hand effectively anymore. Finally after 10 years Martin realized that the Doctor was just messing with him and now Martin is really going to become a Doctor. In the meantime he is helping out his mom at her highly profitable business, a Hair Salon in New York City ( Manhattan ) called Color Tess Salon. He is trying to act like a receptionist, he hopes its working. Heh,
