The 2011/12 season was the 14th season since the establishment of the new 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga , the second highest league in German ice hockey, and began on September 23, 2011. 13 teams took part in the league organized by the ice hockey game operating company. The champions of the league were the Landshut Cannibals , who prevailed in the playoff final against the Starbulls Rosenheim with 4-2 wins.
The Fischtown Pinguins were the last-placed team in the relegation round, relegated to the league. But since the first of the league, the Tölzer Löwen, did not exercise their right of promotion and the league is to be increased to 14 teams anyway, the club was allowed to remain in the league.

Play-off games
mode
Overtime / penalty shootout: If the game ends in a draw after the regular playing time of 3 × 20 minutes, there is an extension of 20 minutes with four against four field players, but only until a goal is scored. The team that scores the goal is the winner with the corresponding result.
If no goal was scored in extra time, a penalty shoot-out took place immediately and without changing sides, with the exception of the last game of a play-off series, which was extended by 20 minutes until a goal was scored. In all games, the ice surface was "peeled dry" before the start of the penalty shootout.
Play-off tree
In the semi-finals, the remaining best of the main round competed against the remaining worst placed in the main round and the remaining second best against the remaining second worst of the main round.
Play-off quarter-finals
The play-off quarter-finals were played in the best of seven mode and took place on March 14, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25 and 27, 2012.
