Acropolis Rally

The Acropolis Rally (also Rallye Greece or after the sponsor: BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally of Greece) is a rally event that has been held in the region around Athens since 1951. From 1973 to 2013 she was a regular part of the FIA World Rally Championship .

The Acropolis Rally was held for the first time in 1951 and was initiated by Shell; the route was 1923 kilometers long. It led across Greece via Tropoli, Larissa, Kavala, Thessaloniki to Athens. In 1952 the automobile club ELPA took over the race and a year later the race became international. In 1975 the qualification was held at Tatoi airfield, and the end point has been there since 2008.

The route leads over winding, stony mountain roads. The high temperatures in midsummer and the rough ground are equally demanding on the vehicles' tires and engines. A spectator special test has been held in the Athens Olympic Stadium since 2005 . The organizer of the rally is the Greek automobile club ELPA .

For over 10 years there has also been a Historic Acropolis Rally (and according to the sponsor: Mercedes-Benz Historic Acropolis).
