Hacettepe SK or Hacettepespor is a Turkish football club from the capital Ankara . The club was bought by Gençlerbirliği Ankara in the early 2000s and has served as their second team ever since.
In the 2000s, the club experienced a turbulent time with two promotions in a row to the Süper Lig , where they had to relegate again after two seasons, this time the free fall followed to the TFF 3rd Lig . In the 2013/14 season, the club rose again to the TFF 2nd Lig .
history
1. Founding of an association and the first few years
The association was first founded in 1948 as Ankara Sanayi Barbarosspor or Ankara Sanayi Barbaros SK in the Turkish capital Ankara . After he had played club until 1968 in Ankara's regional amateur leagues, the club made an application for the season 1968/69 to participate in the third highest Turkish professional league, the Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi, introduced a year earlier . Since the club had met all requirements for admission, the Turkish Football Association approved participation for the third division season 1968/69 . In its first season, the club finished 12th in the table and thus achieved safe relegation. After the club was able to stay in the league for two more years, they missed relegation in the summer of 1972 and were relegated to the regional amateur league. Since Ankara already had a large number of clubs in the first, second and third league with a population of 900,000, Sanayi Barbaros lacked the necessary support to rise again and continued to play in the amateur league.
Renaming and return to professional football
In the mid-1990s, the association, which had fallen into oblivion, was bought up by the metal manufacturing company Asaş and renamed Ankara ASAŞ SK, or Ankara ASAŞ for short . In the summer of 1997, the club achieved the long-awaited promotion to the Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi and thus the return to Turkish professional football. Already in its second third division season after returning to professional football, the third division season 1998/99 , the club reached the championship of the league and thus the first ascent in the club's history in the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi . In its first season in the 2nd division, the club reached a safe non-relegation place. In its second second division season, the 2000/01 season , Ankara ASAŞ was drawn into Group 5, in which almost exclusively clubs from Southeast Anatolia were. The club's management then declared that they did not want to take part in the game. The Turkish Football Association then rated all of the club's games with a 3-0 defeat and forced the club to be relegated.
Systemic relegation to the TFF 3rd Lig
Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-lane Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane and two-stage Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight -lane Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams that only occupied a middle place in the table in the third division 2000/01 season were assigned to the newly created fourth-highest Turkish division, the 3rd league, for the coming season. Ankara ASAŞ, which voluntarily did not take part in the game of the second division season 2000/01, was already relegated at the beginning of the season and had to relegate to the third division at the end of the season due to the system.
Modern times
Before the 2003/2004 season, the team played their games under the name Asaşspor . Due to financial problems, the club was sold to Gençlerbirliği Ankara . After the club was sold, the name was Gençlerbirliği ASAŞ . In 2006 the club name changed to Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ .
The promotion to the first division in 2007 meant for Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ that the club had to be run separately and independently from Gençlerbirliği Ankara. Since the first division promotion, the cooperation with Gençlerbirliği Ankara has therefore only taken place in relation to youth training. After a year in the first Turkish league , the board of Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ decided to change the name from Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ to Hacettepespor, in order to remove the last connections as the former farm team of Gençlerbirliği Ankara from the club name. With this in mind, the club colors have also been changed to purple and white. The name was chosen as a homage to Ankara's former top club Hacettepe Gençlik Kulübü . The former Hacettepe Gençlik Kulübü went in 1988 meanwhile in the current Keçiörengücü club .
