Bouin ( Breton : Bonn ) is a French municipality with 2156 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of Les Sables-d'Olonne and the canton of Saint-Jean-de-Monts (until 2015: canton of Beauvoir-sur-Mer ). The inhabitants are called bouinais .
geography
Bouin is located about 43 kilometers southwest of Nantes on the Bay of Biscay . In the north, the Falleron borders the community. Bouin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Moutiers-en-Retz in the north, Vileneuve-en-Retz in the north and north-east, Bois-de-Céné in the east and south-east, Saint-Gervais in the south-east and Beauvoir-sur-Mer in the south and south-west .
history
Up until the 18th century, Bouin was still on an island ( Île de Bouin ). Only when the salt marshes were drained did this island become mainland.
