Darren Morgan / Achievements

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list features the achievements of snooker player Darren Morgan . The Welshman Morgan was a professional player on the Snooker Main Tour between 1988 and 2006 and reached 48 finals both during that time and as an amateur in the years before and after, of which he won 31.

Born in Newport in 1966 , Morgan won both the Welsh Snooker Championship and the Amateur World Championship in 1987 and became a professional player for the 1988/89 season as a result. Already in his first professional season at the Pontins Professional in 1989, in the final against Tony Drago , he won his first professional tournament win, and in the next season he made it to the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship . Flanked by victories at various smaller tournaments such as the Welsh Professional Championship , he climbed the snooker world rankings and was already 16th in the world rankings in the 1992/93 season . After reaching the final of the Welsh Open in 1992 and the final of the Asian Open in 1993, he was among the top 10 in the world rankings for three years between 1994 and 1997.

In the following years, however, the successes largely failed to materialize; Morgan only won a few tournaments without any influence on the world rankings such as the Irish Masters in 1996 or the Nations Cup in 1999 together with the Welsh team . In the world rankings, he dropped out of the top 16 in 1998 and out of the top 32 in 2000, before he ended his professional career at the end of the 2005/06 season - slipping further to 66th place. As a result, Morgan stepped up its commitment at amateur level, winning the Welsh Snooker Championship two more times, the World Senior Amateur Championship five times, the European Senior Snooker Championship ten times and the 2011 World Seniors Championship .

Non-ranking tournaments

In so-called non-ranking tournaments, i.e. tournaments that, for example, have a more or less open field of participants, but still have no influence on the world rankings, Morgan reached ten finals, of which he was able to win six. One win and one defeat are accounted for by editions of the World Seniors Championship , which took place after the end of his professional career, but in which Morgan participated as an amateur and are therefore also listed here.
