Ergersheim ( Alsatian : Arische ) is a French commune with 1358 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

The main roads D30 and D45 cross in Ergersheim. Neighboring communities are Dahlenheim , Osthoffen , Ernolsheim-Bruche , Dachstein and Wolxheim . It is approx. 22 km to Strasbourg.

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Ergersheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Molsheim district in the Lower Alsace district .

The coat of arms shows the local patron saint, St. Nicholas, who is also the patron saint of St. Nicholas' Church. The salt barrel with the three children at his feet indicates the resurrection of the killed scholars, whose corpses were cured in a salt barrel and which, according to legend, St. Nicholas is said to have brought back to life.

Attractions

The Roman Catholic St. Nicholas Church was consecrated to the city's patron. The main facade dates from 1873.

The St. Michaels Chapel is the only witness of the village of Rimlenheim near Ergersheim, which disappeared in 1444. This chapel dates from the 12th century. It is nestled in the vineyards in the Valley of the Weevils. The disappeared village of Rimlenheim was first mentioned in 884. The hamlet was destroyed by the Armagnacs , a savage mercenary band, in 1444. Only five houses remained in the early 17th century. The chapel was once adorned with an altarpiece from 1741 carved by Ostermeyer, Soultz-les-Bains , in honor of the Virgin Mary. A mass in memory of the missing villagers is celebrated in this chapel on September 29th with a pilgrimage, the day of the Archangel Michael .

The Abbaye Notre-Dame d'Altbronn Trappist convent . The Cistercian nuns have occupied the old villa of the Simonis, built in 1820, since 1895, a family that moved from Italy. Several members of this family excel in the ranks of the clergy and are devoted to social and charitable works. So z. B. Jacob Ignatius Simonis (1831–1903) was a Catholic clergyman, professor and member of the Reichstag and was considered one of the leading figures of the Catholic-Alsatian protest group. Paul Müller-Simonis was a co-founder of the Alsace-Lorraine Center Party (ELZ). In 1895 a church and a monastery were added to the villa.
