The Football League One 2004/05 was the first season of the English Football League One , at the same time the 13th season of the second division of the Football League after the introduction of the Premier League and 78th third division season overall. Third division champions were Luton Town and next rose to second-placed Hull City and, after play-off successes against FC Brentford and Hartlepool United, fifth-placed Sheffield Wednesday in the Football League Championship .

For the three promoted teams in the following third division season 2005/06, the three second division clubs FC Gillingham , Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United ranked in the table below . Torquay United , AFC Wrexham , Peterborough United and Stockport County had to relegate from Football League One . Instead of these four clubs, the fourth division champions Yeovil Town , behind them Scunthorpe United and Swansea City and the play-off winners Southend United took the vacant positions in the following season 2005/06 .
