Giresun is a province ( İl ) of Turkey . It is located in northeast Turkey on the Black Sea . It has borders with the following provinces : Trabzon in the east, Gümüşhane in the southeast, Erzincan in the south, Sivas in the south and southwest and Ordu in the west. The Black Sea forms the natural border in the north.

About two kilometers off the coast of Giresun is the small island of Giresun Adası (Aretias). According to Greek mythology , Heracles met the Amazons on this island .
