Girgols belongs to the historic region of Carladès and is located about 13 kilometers north-northeast of the city center of Aurillac . Girgols is surrounded by the neighboring municipality of Tournemire in the north, Saint-Projet-de-Salers in the north and northeast, Lascelle in the east and southeast, Laroquevieille in the south, Marmanhac in the south and southwest and Saint-Cernin in the west.
