The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Aurillac and the canton of Saint-Paul-des-Landes (until 2015: canton of Saint-Mamet-la-Salvetat ).

Parlan is located about 23 kilometers west-southwest of Aurillac in the Massif Central and in the Châtaigneraie . Parlan is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Roumégoux in the north and northeast, Cayrols in the east, Rouziers in the southeast, Saint-Julien-de-Toursac in the south and southeast, Saint-Hilaire in the southwest, Bessonies in the west and southwest, Labastide-du-Haut- Mont in the west and Saint-Saury in the northwest.
