Prunet is a French municipality with 677 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ); administratively it belongs to the arrondissement of Aurillac and is part of the canton of Arpajon-sur-Cère (until 2015 Aurillac-3 ). The inhabitants are called Prunetais .

Prunet is about twelve kilometers south-southeast of Aurillac . Prunet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Arpajon-sur-Cère in the north, Labrousse in the northeast, Teissières-lès-Bouliès in the east, Leucamp in the southeast, Ladinhac in the south and southeast, Lafeuillade-en-Vézie in the south and Roannes-Saint-Mary in the West and northwest.
