Hans Rinn (born March 19, 1953 in Langewiesen ) is a former German luge athlete .

Hans Rinn started for the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof . At the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck , he and Norbert Hahn won gold in the two-seater and bronze in the single-seater. Four years later he won gold in the doubles at the Olympic Games in Lake Placid . In 1973, 1974, 1978 and 1979 he was European champion in single-seater, 1973, 1975 and 1980 European champion in doubles, 1973 and 1977 world champion in single-seater and 1977 world champion in doubles. In 1982 he entered the European championships again at short notice in the doubles and became vice European champion with Hans-Jörg Ludwig.

Rinn completed a degree in precision engineering. Originally, he wanted to study design at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle , but despite having passed the entrance exam, he was unable to start studying due to the physical strain.

After his active career, Rinn, who was already considered an active tinkerer and according to his own statements, always prepared his sled a little more carefully than the competition, worked as a sled technician at ASK Oberhof. He was promoted to major in this capacity . After the fall of the Wall, he started his own business with the Rinn-Rutschen company , which initially mainly produced water slides and plastic toboggan runs, but also racing sleds and self-steering summer bobsleighs for tourist rides for the railways in Oberhof and Calgary. The focus is now on plastic components for rescue and ambulance vehicles.

Rinn received the Patriotic Order of Merit several times : 1974 in bronze and 1976 and 1980 in silver. He has been a member of the FIL Hall of Fame since 2005 . On May 29, 1976, he was awarded the honorary citizenship of Langewiesen to honor his sporting successes as world and Olympic champion. Hans Rinn has been an honorary citizen of Ilmenau since 1980 .
