List of infantry divisions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An infantry division (InfDiv), also known as a rifle division , is a major military unit at division level , whose combat troop units belong to the infantry category. In order to be able to lead the combat of the combined arms , combat support troops such as artillery , engineers , etc. belong to it . Depending on the range of operations, there are various variations of this type of division such as light infantry, mountain, airborne or paratrooper and motorized infantry divisions.

The infantry of the Bundeswehr today consists of the armed forces of hunters , paratroopers and mountain fighters , which together form a group. In the existing structure of the Bundeswehr, only the Infantry Rapid Forces division now consists of the Air Mobile Operations division .

The Panzergrenadiers are no longer part of the infantry in Germany today, while the US Army infantry division for large mechanized units still exists.

The marine infantry is a specialized unit for infantry tasks in cooperation with naval forces .
