Municipal area with districts

Jossgrund is a municipality in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district in the Spessart, consisting of four districts .

geography

The community is located on the upper reaches of the Jossa river in the Hessian Spessart , on the border with the Bavarian district of Main-Spessart . The closest town is Bad Orb , 8 to 15 kilometers from the districts. The topographically highest point of the municipality district is located about 540  m above sea level. NN at the summit of the Long Mountain.

Neighboring communities

Jossgrund borders in the north on the town of Bad Orb , on the community-free area Gutsgebiet Spessart and the town of Bad Soden-Salmünster , in the east on the community-free area Forst Aura ( district Main-Spessart ), in the south on the community Flörsbachtal and in the west on the Biebergemünd municipality .

structure

The community Jossatal was formed on December 31, 1971 from the previous communities Burgjoss , Oberndorf (today the seat of the community administration) and Pfaffenhausen . On July 1, 1974, it merged with the community of Lettgenbrunn to form the new community of Jossgrund.

history

The Burgjoss moated castle dates from 1572.

Burgjoss, the oldest of the districts, was first mentioned in a document in 850, Pfaffenhausen in 1059, Lettgenbrunn in 1313 and Oberndorf in 1404. From 1450 the area belonged to the Electorate of Mainz .

After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803, the right-bank areas of the Electorate of Mainz were added to the Principality of Aschaffenburg , which in turn fell to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt in 1810 . Through the Peace of Paris in 1814, the area came to the Kingdom of Bavaria and belonged there to the Orb district and from 1862 to the Gemünden am Main district office .

During the German War of 1866, Bavaria lost the Orb district (without aura) to Prussia , which it incorporated into the Gelnhausen district of its Hesse-Nassau province . After the Second World War , the occupying powers dissolved Prussia. The American occupied areas of Hessen-Nassau were assigned to the new state of Hessen .

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the districts of Gelnhausen, Hanau and Schlüchtern were merged with the city of Hanau on July 1, 1974 to form the Main-Kinzig district . At the same time, the Jossgrund community was founded through the merger of the Lettgenbrunn and Jossatal communities , which in turn consisted of the districts of Burgjoss , Oberndorf and Pfaffenhausen . The district Oberndorf was set as the administrative seat. Local districts were not formed.

mayor

Rainer Schreiber has been the mayor since July 1, 2005; he was re-elected in 2011 and 2017. The predecessor was Robert Ruppel (CDU). At the end of 2003, Jossgrund and Ludwigsau were the only debt-free municipalities in Hesse.

coat of arms

Blazon : "In red with a silver left flank , in it a black woodpecker with a red headstock at the gap, a six-spoke silver wagon wheel, four silver oak leaves growing from its upper edge, the two middle ones on longer stems."

The oak leaves and the black woodpecker indicate the Spessart , to which the municipality Jossgrund belongs, and the four oak leaves represent the four districts of the municipality. The wheel symbolizes the former membership in Kurmainz . Red and white are the state colors of the state of Hesse.

Approval for the coat of arms of the municipality of Jossgrund was granted on February 27, 1976 on application of January 6, 1976.

In bus traffic, the community is connected by the lines HU-82 and HU-83 of the roundabout company KVG Main-Kinzig mbH, both of which lead to Bad Orb.

The next motorway junction is the Bad Orb / Wächtersbach junction 12 to 16 kilometers away on the 66 federal highway in a north-westerly direction or Bad Soden-Salmünster / Jossgrund junction 15 to 19 kilometers away on the 66 federal highway north-east.

The German Alps – Baltic Sea holiday route runs through the districts of Pfaffenhausen and Lettgenbrunn, and the Spessart-Höhenstraße runs through Lettgenbrunn . The historic Eselsweg leads across the districts of Pfaffenhausen and Lettgenbrunn .

In September 2007 a European cultural cycle and hiking trail ( Archäologische Spessartprojekt eV , European coordination office - Pathways to Cultural Landscapes) was opened. The path is called Perlen der Jossa and extends from the source of the Jossa in Lettgenbrunn / Villbach via Pfaffenhausen, Oberndorf and Burgjoss to Jossa .

media

The daily newspapers include the Gelnhäuser Neue Zeitung and the Gelnhäuser Tageblatt . The Jossgründer Blättche is a monthly advertising paper that is also available for download.

The Jossatal School , a primary school , is located in Oberndorf . There are other general education schools in Bad Orb ( secondary and secondary school ), Gelnhausen ( grammar schools ), Wächtersbach ( cooperative comprehensive school ) and Bad Soden-Salmünster ( integrated comprehensive school ).

The Dom an der Jossa (St. Martin's Church in Oberndorf), a well-known fountain has been nearby since the end of July 2020.

religion

There are Catholic parishes in all four districts; they belong to the diocese of Fulda . There is also a Protestant parish in Lettgenbrunn, which belongs to the regional church of Kurhessen-Waldeck .

Sports

There are soccer clubs with their own soccer fields in all four districts. There is also the Oberndorf tennis club, which also has a beach volleyball court on its premises , and the golf club in Lettgenbrunn. There is also the table tennis club TTC Oberndorf in Oberndorf. There are mini golf courses in operation in Lettgenbrunn and Burgjoss. Hiking associations and mountain bike clubs use the opportunities in the nature of the Spessart .

In Oberndorf there is also a small winter sports area with a ski lift. Both in Oberndorf and in Lettgenbrunn, the snowiest place in the municipality, cross-country trails are groomed in winter.

Buildings

In addition to the church in Lettgenbrunn, which is home to two denominations under one roof, the church in Oberndorf (also called "Dom an der Jossa") is worth seeing. The Beilstein lies between Lettgenbrunn and the hamlet of Villbach . A basalt cone with the remains of the castle and in the middle of the nature reserve of the same name with a unique flora. Burgjoss is the oldest village. It was first mentioned in a document in 850. The moated castle in Burgjoss owned by the Lords of Jazaha is now the seat of the forest administration. In Pfaffenhausen you can still see an intact mill wheel on the Jossa, and here in the beautiful Spessart Forest there is Hesse's largest Kneipp facility with two treading pools and one arm Kneipp pool.

Around the hamlet of Villbach you can still see clear remains of the First and Second World Wars. In addition to a bunker that was blown up (World War II) on today's golf course, there are countless trenches in the woods (World War I).

Regular events

The village festivals with their respective traditions are an important part of the culture in Jossgrund. Above all, the Kirchweih festivals (called: Kier or Kerb) that take place from July to August are to be mentioned here. While the districts of Pfaffenhausen, Oberndorf and Burgjoss speak a local dialect, the district of Lettgenbrunn, which was only founded after the Second World War, is less traditional, as displaced people from the former East German areas settled here. The district has grown through families from the Rhine-Main area.
