List of rivers in the Westerwald
The following table lists rivers that are located in the extended Westerwald . The area covered by the valleys of the rivers should be understood as the extended Westerwald
- Dill - in the east
- Lahn - in the southeast
- Rhine - in the southwest
- Victory - in the north
- Lighter - in the northeast
is enclosed. In addition to the main natural units of the Hoher Westerwald , Oberwesterwald and Niederwesterwald, this also includes the Siebengebirge , Pleiser Hügelland , Leuscheid , Nisterbergland and Southern Hellerbergland landscapes . The Gladenbacher Bergland , which lies to the east of the Dill, but is part of the system of natural areas in Germany in the main unit group 32 - Westerwald , was not included here . Rivers on the edge of the Westerwald
It is the five border rivers already listed above that define the area contour of the extended Westerwald.
Rivers in the interior of the Westerwald
- The following table contains the inner rivers and streams of the Westerwald as understood above, plus the Dill and the Heller. The list begins with the dill, the source of which is located in the far east of the area on the south side of the Lahn-Sieg watershed, and then, clockwise following the border water contour to the source of the Heller north of this watershed , names all treated waters in the order of theirs It flows into the surrounding "river ring".
- For a better overview or for sorting downstream, depending on the river system, hyphens are inserted in the DGKZ digits after the digits of the respective main river.
- The border rivers Dill and Heller, which are only fed from the Westerwald on the right (dill) or left (Heller), are printed in italics. Their catchment areas are only on one side in the Westerwald; accordingly, their stated total values for catchment area and runoff can only roughly be assigned to half of the Westerwald.
- The border rivers Lahn, Rhine and Sieg, on the other hand, are not listed at all, as they arise more or less further away from the Westerwald; their total values would therefore be meaningless.
- An asterisk (*) marks the mouth of a river.
