from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Latin work from the book series, with a red cover (Greek works have a green cover)

This is a list of the works in the Loeb Classical Library . The renowned book series named after its founder James Loeb , consisting of bilingual editions of classical Greek and Latin literature , each with an English translation , was founded in 1911. It is published by Harvard University Press .

The first volume in the series is the Argonautika (an epic version of the Argonaut saga ) by Apollonius Rhodius , published in 1912, and the second is the first part of the Roman history of the Greek Appian . The series now comprises five hundred and twenty volumes (2012).

Many volumes in the series are available online.

The quality of the volumes is considered uneven.

Overview

The respective English translation of the title is given as the work title (according to the scheme: "[[Sieben gegen Theben | Seven Against Thebes]"). In the headings of the structure used here , the English spellings of the ancient author names of the book title have been translated or reproduced in a name form customary in German (e.g. Ptolemy = Ptolemy; Aristotle = Aristotle; Livy = Livius; Jerome = Hieronymus etc.). The titles of the works were based on the pattern " Iliad" / " Odyssey" or " Metamorphoses". - The aim and purpose of the links are references to existing main articles relating to the ancient works and people, also in other language versions.
