VfB Leipzig - Central German soccer champion 1913

The Central German Football Championship 1912/13 of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV) was the twelfth season of the Central German Football Championship . This year's championship was held again in numerous regional Gauligen, the winners of which met in a knockout round . With a 6-0 win over Coburger FC , VfB Leipzig won the Central German Football Championship for the seventh time and qualified for the German Football Championship in 1912/13 . After victories over Askania Forst and Berlin TuFC Viktoria 89 , the Leipzig team reached the final, which they won 3-1 against Duisburg SpV . For VfB Leipzig this was the third German football championship they had won.

mode

The clubs were divided into 21 districts (Gaue) in the 1912/13 season, the winners of which played the central German football championship together with the defending champion. The representatives of the seven most powerful districts and the winners of the remaining districts played their own final round. The two lap winners then met in the final. The Gaue Altmark and Vogtland could not report their Gaumeister in time, which means that no club from these Gaue took part in the Central German football final this season. Also from the districts of Elbe-Elster and West Thuringia, no representative took part in the final round.

The districts Erzgebirge, Göltzschtal, Saal-Elster and Westsachsen are new additions. Only the Gaumeister Saale-Elsters and West Saxony were allowed to take part in the Central German football finals this season.

Saale-Elster district

The Saale-Unstrut Gau was founded on June 11, 1912. The Gau was founded at the request of the Weißenfels associations, which found their interests in the Saale Gau not sufficiently taken into account. Due to the small distance between the towns and the resulting reduced travel connections, the clubs from Teuchern , Naumburg and Zeitz were also included in the new Gau. The intention to also join the city of Merseburg failed because the travel connections in the Saalegau were more convenient and cheaper for Merseburg. The clubs from the 1st class previously played in the 1st class in East Thuringia, in the 2nd class in Saale and in the 3rd class in North West Saxony. The district was renamed Saale-Elster during the season.
