Ammerswil Church

The Reformed Church Ammerswil is the Reformed village church in the Aargau community of Ammerswil in Switzerland . It was first mentioned in a document in 1275 and became a reformed church when the Reformation was introduced in the city of Bern and its subject areas.

history

The church consecrated to the Apostle Peter originally consisted only of the Romanesque nave . Over the centuries it has been expanded and changed. In 1350 it was painted with frescoes , which were removed during a renovation at the end of the 15th century. Further changes resulted from the addition of the church tower , the sacristy and in 1640 the choir. The Romanesque windows were also replaced by pointed arch windows. The church tower clock with a wrought iron clockwork was installed in 1604. It remained in operation until 1948 and can now be viewed in the Spycher. During the interior renovation in 1904, the frescoes were exposed again and the last exterior renovation was in 1948. Sylvia Michel was pastor here from 1964 to 1981.

Furnishing

The oldest bell in the tower bears the date 1498. The oak pulpit and the font, donated by Lenzburg bailiff Johann Rudolf Schmalz, are from 1640. The present organ was installed in 1959 for an interior renovation.
