The Reformed Church of Birmenstorf is located on the western outskirts of Birmenstorf on a hill covered with grapevines . It was inaugurated on June 28, 1936 and belongs to the Reformed parish of Birmenstorf-Gibstorf-Turgi.

prehistory

In the village of Birmenstorf , which has had parity since the Reformation , the old village church was used jointly by both denominations and since 1718 has belonged half to both denominations. On August 20, 1930, the Catholic parish took over the Reformed portion for 35,000 Swiss francs.

History of the church

The Reformed parish decided to build its own church and, after long discussions, chose the Bollrain on the western edge of the village as the building site. The church was planned by Albert Maurer , an architect from Rüschlikon, and built by the Zurich architects Vogelsanger und Maurer . The inauguration took place on June 28, 1936. For financial reasons, a tower clock and an organ were initially not installed. Both could be made up in 1952. The church is considered a typical New Building and is under cantonal protection .

Furnishing

Interior of the ref. Birmenstorf Church

The choir has a mural by the painter Eugen Maurer, which shows the risen Christ appearing to his disciples at the Sea of Galilee ( John 21). The glass windows on the south side of the church show, among other things, the four evangelists . In 1952 an organ with 17 registers was built into the church . In the same year the clock found its place in the tower and in 1956 the church received an electric bell. At Pentecost 1995, a three-part group of figures with a communion table created by Ruedi Sommerhalder and Otto Strauss was inserted into the choir room.

Bells

The church bells originally came from the Lenzburg town church . Two bells that had been sold to the Rüetschi bell foundry in Aarau to be melted down were initially borrowed by the parish and later acquired cheaply, and the other two by the Lenzburg community as well. In 2002 one of the two borrowed from Lenzburg, which originally came from the Staufberg Church , was returned there and replaced by a new bell.
