Church of Kirchleerau

The Reformed Church Kirchleerau is the Reformed church of the Aargau community of Kirchleerau in the canton of Aargau and belongs to the Kirchleerau parish, to which Moosleerau also belongs.

history

There was a church in Kirchleerau from around 1050. It was first mentioned in a document in 1275. The Romanesque nave of today's church dates from around this time. In 1595 today's church tower and choir were built in Gothic style . Further work appears to have been done in 1636. The church set came into the possession of the Rued rule in the 15th century . It then belonged to the respective gentlemen, most recently the nobles von May , until they sold it to the canton of Aargau in 1834.

Buildings and equipment

The church stands exactly east in the middle of the cemetery. The choir, closed on three sides , adjoins the nave under a full gable roof . A modern vestibule from the early 20th century is added to the west side; in this area the roof is hipped. On the north side of the choir rises the slender church tower with a diagonal gable roof (Käsbissen).

Inside, the choir, which has been raised by two steps, is separated from the nave by a pointed arch. A gallery rises at the rear of the ship . On the south wall there are remains of a wall painting from the late Gothic period. The coats of arms of various church lords on the choir windows date from the period between the end of the 15th and the middle of the 17th century .
