Reformed Church Würenlos

The Evangelical Reformed Church Würenlos is the Reformed village church in the municipality of Würenlos in the Swiss canton of Aargau . It was built in 1936 and 1937 and inaugurated on June 6, 1937.

history

In 1529 the Reformation took hold in Würenlos. Since the Catholic towns of the old Swiss Confederation did not tolerate any Reformed clergy in Würenlos after the Catholic victory in the Second Kappel War , the Reformed pastor at the time had to flee to neighboring Otelfingen in 1533 . Nevertheless, there were still Reformed people in Würenlos who were allowed to worship every two weeks in the Catholic Church. In 1882 a reformed parish or parish was founded in Würenlos by resolution of the Grand Council . Würenlos got the first Reformed pastor since the Reformation in 1886; the rectory had already been built a year earlier. The services continued to take place in the old village church until 1937. This became too small for the Catholic parish, so that the Reformed parish - despite a warning from the church council in Aarau - started negotiations with the Catholics from 1935 to clarify the church issue. The result of the negotiations was that the Catholic parish took over the old church entirely, for which the Reformed received 55,000 SFr. In the architecture competition for church construction, the design by architect Locher from Erlenbach, who built a church in a traditional style, won.

Church building

The church consists of the nave, the choir and some side rooms. The church tower is closed by a cheese bite roof and has a tower clock. The church including organ and cemetery cost 178,503.06 francs, of which due to the high unemployment at the time, part was taken over by the canton and the federal government.

The church underwent an interior and exterior renovation between 1991 and 1993, with the interior being heavily modernized. The organ was also replaced. The seven glass windows in the church were created by the Kleinlützler artist Daniel Gaemperle and show Jakob and the ladder to heaven . The artist Adelheid Hanselmann designed the lectern, the communion table and the cross hanging above it .

Furnishing

In the chancel of the church there is a baptismal font from 1642 that was taken over from the old church to the new one. The four bells in the church tower were cast in Aarau in 1937 by the H. Rüetschi bell foundry and were raised into the tower on February 10, 1937. They are tuned in Db, F, As and B. On the bells there are Bible verses, on the D-bell the verse "Blessed are they who hear and keep the word of God", on the F-bell "Thank the Lord, for he is kind and his goodness endures forever" As bell «Our time is in your hands» and on the B bell «Lord God, you are our refuge for and for». The organ, which was built by Orgelbau Kuhn in 1993 , has two manuals with 18 registers.
