Rothrist Church

The Reformed Church of Rothrist is the village church of the Aargau community of Rothrist in Switzerland . It is in the Rothrister district of Niederwil.

history

Since the Middle Ages, the community has been part of the parish of Zofingen , from 1667 it was subject to the Oftringen choir . In 1712, Maritz Bossardt, the pastor of Uerkheim , donated the benefit for an independent parish that was founded two years later. According to tradition, the foundation is said to have been made in memory of the Second Battle of Villmergen . The church was built between 1714 and 1715 under the direction of the Bern master builder Abraham Dünz II in the Baroque style . Until 1899 the church had a roof turret with three bells, which was replaced by a neo-Romanesque church tower in 1900 . The last renovation to date took place in 1990.

Buildings and equipment

The listed church stands on a hill above the Pfaffneren valley . The building comprises a longitudinal hall with a three-sided closure on the east side, the floor plan ratio being 1: 2. A steep, slightly bent gable roof stretches over it and is hipped over the choir. End and fighter stones as well as corner pilaster strips are the only decoration of the otherwise simple nave . The neo-Romanesque church tower is built on the west side, the three bells of which were cast by H. Rüetschi in Aarau .

In the church there are coats of arms disks from the years 1714 (donated by important personalities like Samuel Frisching ) and 1867. The baptismal font and the wooden pulpit also date from the time the church was built . Today's organ was built in 1972 by Orgelbau Kuhn .
