Reformed Church Erlinsbach

The Reformed Church Erlinsbach is the Reformed village church of the Erlinsbach parish comprising both Erlinsbach and is located in the Aargau municipality of Erlinsbach in the canton of Aargau .

history

The village of Erlinsbach lies on both sides of the Erzbach, but already belonged to two different domains in the late Middle Ages: to the right of the Bach to Solothurn , to the left of the Bach to Bern . When Bern introduced the Reformation in 1528 and wanted to enforce it in its subject areas, there were repeated disputes about the use of the existing church in Niedererlinsbach in Solothurn , which, together with Obererlinsbach, had remained Catholic. Bern had taken over the church set from the abolished Königsfelden monastery , which also included the Solothurn part.

In 1563 the problem was solved by keeping the church in Niedererlinsbach Catholic and Solothurn acquiring the church rate for its area, while Bern had a new Reformed church built in Erlinsbach in Aargau. The congregation provided building space and materials, and they also built the rectory. In 1565 the new church could be occupied. In 1916 the nave passed from the residents' community to the reformed parish of Erlinsbach AG. In 1965 it was expanded by building an annex.

Construction and equipment

The east- facing church , built in late Gothic style, stands on the southern slope of the Haslen hill in the middle of the cemetery. The church, rectory and parish barn form a coherent group of buildings. The nave has a rectangular floor plan and represents the first attempt on Aargau soil to build a preaching church without a choir . A gable roof stretches over the structure , the floor plan of the squat-looking church tower is almost completely integrated into the nave. The tower has a gable roof set across the ship and is profiled by two cornices .

In 1674 the church received the first bell and in 1936 a church tower clock. Today there are five bells in the church tower, one from 1690 and four from 1932. In the church there are two standing panes designed by Heinrich Leu from Bern and a resurrection window from 1965 by Werner Sommer.
