Geographical location
Sankt Bartholomä is located in western Styria in the western part of the Graz-Umgebung district , on the border with the Voitsberg district . The distance to the Styrian capital Graz is about 15 kilometers. The municipality extends over an area of 11.72 square kilometers.
Community structure and neighboring communities
Sankt Bartholomä is divided into three cadastral communities and four localities . The Jaritzberg cadastral community is located east of the Liebochbach and extends over an area of 496.95 hectares. The two cadastral communities Lichtenegg and St. Bartholomä are located west of the Liebochbach and cover an area of 288.94 and 389.38 hectares, respectively.

- Reitergg (226)
- Sankt Bartholomä (513) including Kreuzegg and Michelbach
Furthermore, the municipality can be subdivided into further areas and areas with regional and partly old names, which are, however, not of statistical importance and are now partly forgotten. The mountain slope on which the village of St. Bartholomä and the parish church of Sankt Bartholomä are located is called Kirchleiten . The area of Rinderschick and Rinnerschink extends between the old church and the Pittrich farmstead . The village of Lichtenegg is located between the village of St. Bartholomä and the Strimkogel , and the village of Strim or Stringen with the Strimbauer homestead at the foot of the Strimkogel . The Lercheckkogel with the villages of Lercheck and Palpas stretches from the Strimkogel towards Södingtal . The so-called Steinleiten is located at the Steinleitner homestead . The wooded Kogel between the parish church and the Kreuzegg used to be called Puchas , which is still reminiscent of the name Puchhaus for the homestead at the highest point of the Hafenberg . Below the Kreuzegg is the Gigelleiten with the Gigelbauer homestead . The Hafenberg area also extends from the Puchhaus to the Hafenbergmühle . Sonneck Castle is located on the western side of the Hafenberg . The village of Brandl extends on the southern side of the Hafenberg, between the Buschenschank Höller and the edge of the forest . The ridge between Brandl and Kalchberg used to be called Mern or Marn, and today the name of the Mahrbauer homestead is still remembered. In the southern part of the Jaritzberg cadastral community, there are three small ridges between the area known as the Eck and the Liebochbach, which are called Prankereck or Teuffenbach . That of the municipality Sankt Oswald bei Plankenwarth down leading small ditch carries in the upper part of the name cleared and in the lower part of the name Wiedenbach . The ridge between the Kolmannbaue farmstead and the Guggi guesthouse is called Wolfhaim and the ridge that runs from Sankt Oswald to the former Eckwirt is called Oswaldegg . A ridge runs from the Haflingerhof in a westerly direction that slopes down towards the Jaritzgraben . When farm Brunn Leitner , a, is Brunnleiten said Berglehne which by the Gießgraben of the opposite mountain slope with the farm Gießgrabner is disconnected. At the former Herzenkraft- and Stürgkhmühle in the northern part of Jaritzberg, the Liebochbach forms a hollow which, like the ditch between Seidlmühle and Griesbauer and the two adjoining mountain slopes, bear the name in the Jarz or Jarz .
The following municipalities border the municipality of Sankt Bartholomä clockwise in the north Gratwein-Straßengel , in the northeast Sankt Oswald bei Plankenwarth , in the east, southeast, south and partly in the southwest Hitzendorf , in the southwest the municipality Stallhofen, which already belongs to the Voitsberg district, and in the northwest Stiwoll .
Waters
The community is traversed by the Liebochbach , a tributary of the Kainach , from northwest to southeast and is thus divided into two parts.
history
In 1770, all houses in today's parish were given house numbers for the first time to make it easier to collect taxes and recruits and were grouped together into local parishes, taking into account the parish boundaries when drawing up the boundaries. Since the parish of St. Bartholomä did not consist of closed localities at that time, it was simply named after the parish church, the Rehregg Castle and localities in the respective areas. Thus arose alongside the local churches St. Bartholomew and Reiteregg also Jaritzberg and Lichtenegg . In 1789, individual fields, meadows, vineyards and forests were re-measured for tax collection and entered in the Josefin cadastre . Since this was too imprecise, the parish was re-measured for the Franziszeische cadastre in 1823 and the boundaries still valid today for cadastral parishes were drawn, regardless of the existing parish boundaries. Since the boundaries of the old local communities were no longer congruent with the new cadastral communities, house numbering was carried out again in 1830. When the mansions were abolished in 1848, the previously independent local communities came to Sankt Bartholomä as cadastral communities.
The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
In the community and its surroundings there are a number of small, economically not mineable ore and coal deposits that belong to those of the Graz Paleozoic. They have been thoroughly examined.
