The Scottish Football League Division Two was played for the fifth time in 1897/98 . After the introduction of Division One , it was the fifth edition, as the second highest football division for men in the Scottish Football League under the name Division Two .

In the 1897/98 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 18 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the clubs (with the same number of points) were placed tied. FC Kilmarnock won the championship . The FC Renton retired after four games from the current season back for Hamilton Academical austrug the remaining matches.
