Sigrun Wodars , née Sigrun Ludwigs , second marriage to Sigrun Grau , (born November 7, 1965 in Neu Kaliss ) is a former German athlete . Starting for the GDR , she became Olympic champion in the 800-meter run in 1988 .
Life
Wodars started for SC Neubrandenburg . There she trained together with Christine Wachtel , who was her rival in the finals several times at international highlights. Both athletes were coached by Walter Gladrow . Under her maiden name Sigrun Ludwigs , she became GDR junior champion in the 400-meter run in 1982. At the Junior European Championships in 1983, she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay .
At the European Indoor Championships in 1986 , she won the title in the 800-meter run and won silver at the European Championships in the same year. In 1987 she finished second behind Christine Wachtel at the European Indoor Championships , but was able to win the title at the World Championships in Rome with a time of 1: 55.26 minutes, which was still a German record in January 2013 .
After Wodars had won gold in the 800-meter run at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, for which she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold, she was World Cup -second and European Cup -second on this route in 1989 and also won with the 4-time- 400 meter relay of the GDR the European Cup.
Sigrun Wodars won her last title in Split at the 1990 European Championships over 800 meters. After the second marriage, she started under the name Sigrun Grau at the World Athletics Championships in 1991 and at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , but dropped out in the preliminary stages. Her first husband Reimar Wodars was also active as a track and field athlete.
In her playing days she was 1.66 m tall and 54 kg. At a witness hearing at ZERV in 1998, she stated that she had regularly taken the anabolic steroids Oral-Turinabol and STS from November 1983 to mid-1990 .
Wodars studied sports science at the DHfK Leipzig , Neubrandenburg branch, and became a certified sports teacher. At the same time, she completed training as a physiotherapist. After finishing her athletic career, she works as a teacher at a vocational school for physiotherapy in Neubrandenburg .
In the GDR she received the Gold Patriotic Order of Merit .
