Museum DKM. Entrance on Güntherstrasse. Duisburg 2018

The Museum DKM is an art museum in Duisburg near the main train station. The opening of the private museum after the renovation by the Swiss architects Rohr, Egli and Partner took place on January 22nd, 2009 by the patron Jürgen Rüttgers . The title of the opening presentation, in which parts of the private DKM collection will be shown to the public for the first time, is “Lines of Silent Beauty”. A 300-page catalog has also been published. As part of the RUHR.2010 Capital of Culture , the museum is the youngest participating RuhrKunstMuseen .

On 2,700 m² there are 51 rooms for artists or topics with over 1000 exhibits, including graphic works by Blinky Palermo and objects by Ai Weiwei . The artists are shown with their life's work or an overview. There are also large areas with themed ensembles, dialogue situations and sculpture courtyards. In addition to the permanent exhibition of the collection, there will also be temporary exhibitions in the future.

The initiator of the museum is the DKM Foundation , which was founded in 1999. The founders of the foundation are the two art collectors Dirk Krämer and Klaus Maas , from whose initials the abbreviation DKM is formed. The foundation ran the DKM gallery in Duisburg's inner harbor from 1999 until January 2011 . In the converted truck hall of the former Trinks beverage trade, alternating room installations by various artists could be viewed through four large windows. The two collectors also look after the estate of the artist Ernst Hermanns and the archive of the sculptor Ulrich Rückriem .

It includes pictures, photographs, sculptural works and complete room installations. The old art collection mainly includes works from Pakistan , India , Iran , Japan , Cambodia , Thailand and Egypt . China is represented with works of art from the Han and Qi dynasties .
