action

season 1

Mike Ross is a gifted college dropout. His childhood dream was to become a lawyer. However, when Mike was caught selling math exam results to the dean's daughter , he was expelled from university and his dream was destroyed. Highly intelligent and with a photographic memory , Mike makes a living taking exams for other people - especially LSATs ( Law School Admission Tests ). Needing extra money to put his grandmother in a private nursing home, Mike agrees to deliver a suitcase filled with marijuana for his best friend Trevor.

Harvey Specter is one of New York City's top attorneys (a so-called closer who closes particularly difficult cases). In his law firm he is promoted to senior partner, which means that from now on, due to company policy, he is forced to employ a young lawyer as an employee. When Mike happens to come to Harvey for a job interview while on the run from drug enforcement agents, he impresses him with his quick wit, encyclopedic legal knowledge, and sincere desire to become a lawyer. Harvey hires him right away, even though Mike doesn't have a law degree. Since the firm is hiring only Harvard University graduates , they decide to pretend Mike is a former Harvard student. Only Harvey's secretary and confidante Donna Paulsen knows about Mike's secret from the start.

At the firm, Mike is watched and pressured by junior partner Louis Litt, Harvey's envious rival. Mike and Harvey often get into conflict over Mike's naivete and ethical scruples, as well as Harvey's aggressive and apparently reckless behavior. Despite everything, both overcome their differences and form a close partnership. Meanwhile, Mike struggles to distance himself from Trevor, who cannot escape his past. When Trevor leaves town, Mike begins a relationship with Trevor's ex-girlfriend, Jenny. Mike also becomes friends with paralegal Rachel Zane, who is being kept from law school by exam anxiety. The two are drawn to each other, which complicates Mike's relationship with Jenny and ultimately makes it fail. Trevor returns to New York where he learns that Mike is with Jenny. In revenge, he tells Jessica Pearson the truth about Mike.

season 2

In season two, Daniel Hardman, the firm's second founding partner, returns after the death of his wife. Hardman had had to leave the firm several years earlier because he had misappropriated client funds. Jessica and Harvey fear that Hardman wants to return to his old position as managing partner and therefore try to prevent his return by all means - but in vain. Jessica demands that Harvey fire Mike because he is not a Harvard graduate. When Harvey threatens to quit if Mike is released, Jessica finally gives in.

Harvey is charged with withholding evidence in an old case. In the course of this, he is threatened with the withdrawal of his license. Donna finds and destroys the document in question, whereupon Jessica fires her. Hardman and Jessica are at odds over how to settle the case, which eventually leads to a vote between the partners on the position of managing partner. Hardman becomes a managing partner with the help of Louis - but only for a short time. Mike and Harvey discover that Hardman forged the document and foisted on Donna. This is finally relieved, but was discontinued shortly beforehand at Harvey's express request.

Mike's grandmother dies in the meantime, which troubles him very much. Mike starts an affair with his now married first love Tess. Rachel sees the two of them together, leading to a break in their friendship. Hardman has to leave the firm after his new fraud for good, which means Jessica is re-elected as managing partner.

The law firm Pearson Hardman emerged from this power struggle weakened, which other law firms want to exploit - above all that of Rachel's father Robert Zane. Daniel Hardman now works as a contract attorney for his firm and is returning to fight his old firm in several cases of gender discrimination. Jessica agrees to merge with the British law firm Darby International to defeat Hardman with joint funds. Harvey tries in vain to stop the merger. Harvey's competitor and old friend Dana Scott, known as Scottie, also work for Edward Darby.

In the season finale, Hardman is finally defeated. After Rachel is not admitted to Harvard law school, Mike reveals his secret to her.

season 3

The merger of Pearson and Darby International has been completed. Due to Jessica's refusal to make Harvey a namesake, he teams up with Darby to overthrow her. Harvey faces his old mentor and archenemy Attorney General Cameron Dennis in defense of Ava Hessington, an old friend of Edward Darby. Ava Hessington is arrested for corruption and commissioning multiple murders. Darby sends his "problem solver" Stephen Huntley to New York to help Harvey with the case and to take over Jessica's office. Realizing the merger was a mistake, Jessica names Harvey a new namesake for the law firm Pearson Darby Specter . Ava is about to be convicted when Mike discovers that Stephen Huntley was actually responsible for the murders. Darby agrees to testify against Huntley to save Ava from a long jail sentence. Jessica and Harvey use this opportunity to obtain the dissolution of the joint law firm. Louis takes over the dissolution negotiations, which leads to complications with his British counterpart Nigel Nesbitt. Darby hands over negotiations to Dana Scott and promises her a naming partnership if she wins.

Ava is suing the firm for having to relinquish running the company during the trial. She is represented by Travis Tanner; However, Harvey is able to convince them to withdraw the lawsuit. Harvey begins a relationship with Scottie. Rachel is accepted for her law degree at Stanford University, California, but decides to move to Columbia, New York City, to move in with Mike. Mike's secret is almost discovered by Louis, who is ultimately convinced that Mike only failed one course and then graded himself for it.

Mike realizes that he will never be able to advance any further in the law firm as his fraud could be discovered at any time. He is therefore thinking about a career change. In the season finale, Mike is arrested for making an illegal arrangement with Harold Gunderson in the Ava Hessington case. Harvey and Louis manage to get him and Harold free. Mike realizes the problems his situation is creating for the firm and decides to accept a job offer as an investment banker. This new job will make Mike a future client of Pearson Specter.

Season 4

Mike had only recently started working as an investment banker for Jonathan Sidwell when he got into an uncomfortable situation: A takeover battle for the company Gillis Industries between Mike and the Pearson Specter client Logan Sanders, who is also Rachel's ex-boyfriend. This leads to a fight between Mike and Harvey, who due to their previous work together are soon accused of collusion by the US Securities and Exchange Commission . Jeff Malone, a securities commissioner, is hired by Pearson Specter to help direct the impending investigation. Also, it turns out that he has a relationship with Jessica. The investigation against Pearson Specter is now being carried out by Sean Cahill under the orders of Eric Woodall, who is now working for the stock exchange regulator.

After several unsuccessful takeover attempts from both sides, Mike turns in desperation to Charles Forstman, a manipulative billionaire and investor. He agrees to invest in Gillis Industries on the condition that Mike excludes Sidwell from the profits of the takeover. Mike reluctantly agrees. A short time later, however, he learns that Forstman has informed Sidwell about the agreement, whereupon Mike is fired. When Forstman is about to invest in Gillis Industries , Louis offers him a deal. It soon turns out that this deal is not legal as Louis is forced to divert Forstman's money through international banks to avoid US taxes. He also received an unwanted bribe for this. With his good work in the firm and the seemingly neat deal with Forstman, Jessica is very pleased with Louis' work and offers him a reward. He wishes to become a name partner, which Jessica immediately rejects. Shortly thereafter, Louis decides to hire Mike back instead to prevent him from taking a job at Forstman.

Rachel and Logan get closer at work and kiss. Rachel tells Donna about the kiss and, on her advice, decides not to tell Mike about it. A few days after Mike was fired, she can't stand the lie anymore and confesses to Mike that she and Logan kissed. Mike fights with Logan and moves out of the shared apartment. The new start in the law firm is also difficult. After a while, Mike forgives Rachel and moves back into the apartment.

Jessica learns Louis' secret about his deal with Forstman. After the Securities and Exchange Commission investigation was closed, Louis quits Pearson Specter to forestall his dismissal. He is assisted by Mike and Harvey in his efforts to find a job with another law firm. Katrina, who has always been loyal to Louis, tries to help him too. However, Jessica discovered that Katrina had known about the deal with Forstman for a long time, after which Katrina was fired. Louis discovers Mike's secret because he does not recognize a Harvard award that he should have received because of his final grade. Knowing this, Louis confronts Jessica and blackmailed her into naming him (Pearson Specter Litt). This leads to some tension in the firm, including between Jessica and Jeff Malone, who split up again. After some time and a physical altercation, Louis can finally forgive Mike.

At the end of the season, the threat posed by the Forstman deal and the investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission can finally be fended off. Harvey confesses his love to Donna, which complicates the relationship between the two. Finally, Donna announces that she will work as Louis' secretary in the future. Mike proposes marriage to Rachel using his grandmother's ring.

Season 5

Harvey is badly affected by Donna's move to Louis and experiences severe panic attacks. Then he looks for the therapist Dr. Paula Agard, who is ready to help if he talks about his mother. At first he refuses, but then decides to come to terms with his past.

Harvey is forced to find a replacement for Donna. However, he does not opt for a young, good-looking assistant, but for the somewhat older Gretchen, who quickly turns out to be very capable. Meanwhile, Louis is constantly afraid of losing Donna and worries even more when he learns what salary Harvey was paying Donna. He then decides to work with up-and-coming partner Jack Soloff to change the firm's salary structures. That would affect Harvey the most. First he tries to ingratiate himself with Harvey by strengthening Harvey's back in front of his partner. However, he is gradually drawn into Soloff's intrigue and, to make matters worse, reveals Harvey's payroll to the entire firm. A big argument arises between the two colleagues.

When Louis' sister Esther suddenly appears and asks about Harvey, Louis is forced to jump over his shadow and ask Harvey for help. Despite the dispute, he accepts the case. To Harvey's surprise, Esther looks very attractive and sleeps with her, despite promising Louis not to. After Louis finds out, the argument escalates and Harvey beats Louis. The latter then reports a charge of bodily harm. When Harvey apologizes and reveals that he is seeing a therapist, Louis seems to calm down. Louis suspects that Harvey is being manipulated and decides to continue to intrigue against Harvey and to suspend him. Jessica can finally prevent this.

Meanwhile, Mike is forced to work with Soloff. However, the two are beginning to respect each other. Soloff suggests Mike as a junior partner. Gretchen then published an article in honor of Harvey, with dire consequences.

Up-and-coming partner Soloff fights with Daniel Hardman, who blackmailed him. Finally, he is forced to take action against Jessica and replace her as managing partner. Harvey's nemesis, Forstman, supports Hardman and thus Soloff with money. Forstman offers Harvey a deal: if he resigns, the attacks on the firm will stop. After a session with Dr. Agard decides that Harvey will sacrifice himself for his law firm and accepts the deal.

Mike is also faced with a difficult choice. After meeting an old friend on a case who knows his secret, and Trevor also warns him of the consequences of his crime, he decides to visit Pastor Walker. He has known this since he was little. Walker is able to convince Mike to stop cheating. After showing Mike old books that Mike's grandmother gave to the Church, Mike experiences an emotional breakdown and decides to quit for good. When he was leaving his office, however, he was arrested by two officers for fraud.

In the second half of the season it turns out that prosecutor Anita Gibbs got an anonymous tip that Mike wasn't a real lawyer. Upon seeing this notice, Louis realizes that Sheila Sazs must have written it after reading an article about Mike Ross's junior partnership. Louis tries to convince her, with the help of Harvey, to leave the country before a possible trial. When she realizes that Harvey could actually cost her the job after a misstep, she leaves the country.

The process is still pending. Mike first tries to convince Trevor not to incriminate him. However, he agrees to a deal and testifies against Mike in court. Harvey can quickly declare him untrustworthy. Mike finally wants to see Clifford Danner, whom he got out of jail with Harvey at the end of the first season. However, Clifford's mother reveals to him that her son was shot. Gloria Danner decides to testify for Mike herself, as he was the only person who was interested in her son.

While the jury deliberates, Mike and Co. are put to a tough test. Gibbs offers him two deals: Either he goes to prison for two years or he delivers a name partner. Mike eventually signs the first deal and sacrifices himself for Harvey. Harvey tries to prevent this project, which he does not succeed. He then visits the jury chairman and asks him what the verdict would have been. The judge says everyone knew Mike was a cheater, but the verdict was "not guilty". Harvey initially lies to Mike, claiming he was found guilty to influence his decision. After an argument, however, Harvey tells him the truth: If he hadn't signed the deal, he'd be a free man.

Before Mike goes to jail, he wants to marry Rachel. Shortly before the wedding, however, he decides not to do this - he wants to enable Rachel to have a dream wedding after the two years. With the support of Harvey, Mike begins the difficult journey to prison. Jessica and Louis meanwhile find the office completely empty, as the competition clause of the employees was lifted due to a rescue attempt by Harvey.

Season 6

Mike is serving a two-year prison sentence with fellow inmate Frank Gallo, who has a thirst for revenge against Harvey for arranging for his detention. Rachel is working on the Innocence Project case for her law professor and Jessica is helping on it pro bono, but is distracted by the business problems and ultimately decides to leave the firm and focus more on her private life. Kevin Miller, Mike's cellmate, can help secure a deal for Mike that will allow Mike and Kevin's freedom. Mike initially struggles to reintegrate professionally after his scam became public, but then gets a job with a legal counsel. There he has to watch as a lawyer fails in court and a client then loses her apartment. Mike then accepts a deal to be accepted into the bar. Unfortunately for Mike, Anita Gibbs was appointed to the commission at the last minute and she wants to prevent a unanimous election. Ultimately, Mike is inducted into the bar. Harvey supports Mike and Rachel and ultimately persuades Mike to come back to the firm.

Season 7

Since Jessica left the firm, the partners have struggled to get back to normal business operations. For her many years of good work, Donna is promoted to COO . A friend of Harvey's Alex joins the firm and Harvey begins a relationship with his former therapist Paula. Mike and Harvey have an agreement that Mike can handle a fixed number of cases pro bono, even if he is now back at Pearson Specter Litt. However, one of the cases Mike handles pro bono for legal advice creates a conflict of interest with the firm. Louis and Sheila meet again, although Sheila is now engaged, but the affair becomes a steadfast relationship as she leaves her fiancé for Louis. Mike and Rachel are rescheduling their wedding and want to accept a job offer in Seattle that will enable them to partner with a class-action law firm, despite Harvey offering Mike to partner with his law firm.

Season 8

This is the first season that the main cast changes after Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle left the series.

Specter Litt law firm merges with Robert Zane's law firm. The merger brings a new lawyer, Samantha Wheeler, to the firm. Samantha has her own goal: she wants to be a namesake partner by the end of the year, come what may. Robert is appointed managing partner; thus Louis and Harvey are equal partners, which leads to some conflict.

Season 9

The ninth and final season was ordered on January 23, 2019. It was announced that this would be the final season and all of the leading actors from the previous season would be shown again. Patrick J. Adams had a guest appearance as Mike Ross in the fifth and last episode. In this episode, Mike faces Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Samantha (Katherine Heigl) in one case. In contrast to the second to eighth season, the ninth season consists of ten instead of sixteen episodes. The first broadcast of the ninth season has been on the US cable channel USA Network since July 17, 2019, and the German-language first broadcast has been on Universal TV since April 28, 2020 .
