action

Dom and Letty are spending their honeymoon in Havana . To help his cousin, Dom races a local racing ace and wins, destroying the cousin's car. Dom gives him his Impala and renounces his opponent's vehicle registration certificate. Shortly afterwards, Dom is visited by a woman and blackmailed. It later emerges that it is Cipher who is holding Dom's ex-girlfriend Elena and her son prisoner. At the same time, DSS agent Hobbs receives an order from Mr. Nobody to steal an EMP weapon in Berlin. Dom's team gets the gun, but Dom tricks the others and escapes alone with the gun.

Hobbs was arrested during Dom's maneuver. Mr. Nobody wants to save him from jail, but Hobbs refuses. In prison, he meets Deckard Shaw. Mr. Nobody stages a possibility for Hobbs to escape, with Shaw opening all prison cells so that there is a revolt. Hobbs pursues Shaw, but soldiers surround them in front of the prison. At Mr. Nobody's headquarters, the remaining team, which Shaw is joining, is informed about the cyber terrorist Cipher. They use the Eye of God (see Part 7 ) to find Cipher and Dom. At that moment the two break in and incapacitate everyone. Cipher steals the Eye of God and kisses Dom to show his departure from his team. In Cipher's plane, it becomes clear that Elena's child is Dom's son.

In New York, Dom is said to be stealing nuclear codes from the Russian Defense Minister. On the way, he fakes a car breakdown and secretly meets with Shaw's mother, Magdalena, to come up with a plan with her. Cipher's team hacked countless cars with driver assistance systems in Manhattan and steered them towards the defense minister's motorcade. Parked vehicles are also started and dropped out of a parking garage, so that the limousine gets stuck. Dom threatens the inmates and receives the suitcase. The team finds him and follows him around town. They can stop him briefly with grappling hooks, but Dom's skill allows all six vehicles to collide. His vehicle is also destroyed in the process. When escaping on foot, he first shoots Shaw down. When he faces Letty, Cipher's assistant Rhodes joins them. Dom prevents Rhodes from shooting Letty, but the two now escape to Cipher with the suitcase. Since Dom almost let Letty go with the suitcase, Cipher has Elena shot.

Dom is taken to a former Russian military base on the Siberian coast where Russian nuclear submarines are being scrapped and which is now controlled by a militia. With the EMP, Dom switches off the systems in the base and in a submarine. Cipher hacked into the submarine and wanted to use the atomic codes to get at the nuclear warheads. Dom's old team is also on site and invades the base. While the technical takeover of the submarine fails in the control station, the control unit for the nuclear warheads in the submarine can be secured. Cipher starts the submarine anyway to at least de facto secure the nuclear warheads. To do this, the submarine has to pass through a frozen bay to a lock ten miles away. The team wants to close the lock beforehand and is followed by the submarine and the militia.

Meanwhile, Shaw and his brother broke into Cipher's plane. Dom had deliberately injured Deckard only slightly, and Magdalena Shaw's people saved him. On the plane he fights with his brother against Cipher's followers. They eventually get Dom's son to safety and the plane under control. Cipher escapes with a parachute.

When Dom hears that his son has been saved, he kills Rhodes and then comes to the aid of his team. You turn off the militia. When the submarine launches a heat-seeking missile, Dom can draw attention to his vehicle and steer the missile in an arc back to the submarine. When the rocket explodes, Dom is thrown from his vehicle, but before the even bigger explosion of the submarine, he is rescued by his team's vehicles.

In the end, everyone celebrates together on the roof of a house in New York. Dom announces that his son's name is Brian.

Emergence

After the release of Fast & Furious 7 (2015), lead actor Vin Diesel already spoke of an eighth part of the film series. He explained regarding his co-star and friend Paul Walker , who was killed in a car accident in November 2013, that he had always believed in an eighth part of the series and that Fast & Furious 8 was a film "by Paul". He also announced that the film would be set in New York City  . In February 2016, Vin Diesel announced that after Fast & Furious 8 , two more parts should follow, which should appear in April 2019 and April 2021 respectively. The ninth part was postponed to 2020 in 2017, the cinema release is currently planned for April 21, 2021. before that, the spin-off Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw was released in theaters in August 2019 .

occupation

In July 2015, it was announced that Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Connor, would not appear in the film. After the character in the seventh part was partially played by Walker's younger brothers Caleb and Cody, the rumor arose that at least Cody Walker would play a leading role in the eighth part. At the end of 2015, however, these rumors were denied by producer Neal H. Moritz . Fast & Furious 8 is also no longer a heist movie , as the previous parts did, but rather goes in the direction of an agent film .

In September 2016, Jordana Brewster , who had played Mia Toretto in several of the previous parts, made it clear that she would not play in Fast & Furious 8 . New additions, however, were Charlize Theron  as the film's antagonist, as well as Kristofer Hivju , Scott Eastwood and Helen Mirren . In a short appearance you see Tego Calderón as Tego Leo and his buddy Don Omar as Rico Santos.

Filming

In January 2016 it was announced that the production team had applied for a filming permit for Cuba . Filming for the film finally began on March 14, 2016 in Mývatn , Iceland . At the end of April 2016, the film was shot in the Cuban capital Havana . This made Fast & Furious 8 the first American film since the beginning of the US embargo against Cuba , which received a shooting permit there. criticism

The film received mixed reviews from critics. On the Rotten Tomatoes website , it has a 64% rating based on 179 rated reviews. The Augsburger Allgemeine writes: "The action scenes that director F. "

Christoph Petersen from filmstarts.de gave it 4/5 stars and said: “ Fast & Furious 8 is even more aloof and crazier than all the parts before and so does not fit far behind the outstanding Fast & Furious 5 in terms of quality […]. "
