The University of Trieste ( Italian Università degli Studi di Trieste ) is the university of Trieste that was founded in 1924 . Today the university has twelve faculties with 27,500 students and around 1,000 lecturers.

history

In 1877 a commercial college (Italian: Scuola Superiore di Commercio ) was founded from the estate of Baron Pasquale Revoltella (1795–1869) from Trieste . After the Austro-Hungarian monarchy lost control of Trieste in the First World War , the Italian government transformed the commercial school into a K. University of Economics and Commerce in 1920 . In 1924 the Faculty of Law was created, which together with the Faculty of Business Administration formed the University of Trieste .

During the Second World War , in 1943, faced with the risk of a division of the Italian territory and the introduction of a German military administration, the faculty of philosophy and philosophy and then the faculty of shipbuilding and mechanical engineering were founded on their own initiative .

In the post-war period, expansion activities were resumed: in 1946 the Faculty of Natural Sciences was created; other faculties gradually followed. Today the university consists of twelve faculties with approx. 27,500 students (as of 2005) and approx. 1,000 lecturers.
