Faistenau is a municipality in the Salzburg-Umgebung district in the Salzburger Land in Austria with 3094 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The landmark is the village linden in Faistenau .
geography
The municipality is located in the Salzburger Land, 14 kilometers east of the city of Salzburg . It is the highest municipality ( 784 m above sea level ) of the so-called Flachgau and belongs to the judicial district of Thalgau .
Community structure
The municipal area comprises the following eight localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Alm (57) including Krin, Plaik and Strübl
- Anger (675) including Bramsau, Grünau, Höfern, Lohmühle, Todtbauer, Wittau, Wörlehen and Wurmwinkel
- Faistenau (558)
- Lidaun (130) including Ebnerwirt, Eckschlag, Grabenhäuser, Lettengraben and Pionting
- Ramsau (336) including the way out, courier, Brandstatt, Fischlehen and blacksmith farmer
- Tiefbrunnau (393) including Aschau, Döller, Gimplbauer, Hatz, Keflau, Kühleiten, Kurzmühle, Mitterholz, Schreier and Steg
- Front lake (733) including Brunnwald, Hamoosau, Hirschpoint, Raffl, Rosenlehen, Steg and Wassermoos
- Wald (212) including Kesselmann and Klaushof
The community consists of the cadastral communities of Anger, Faistenau, Lidaun, Tiefbrunau and Vorderesee.

A community area of Faistenau is mentioned in 1182, namely Tiefbrunnau : as Konrad III. left this area to the parish of Thalgau.
- 1324 the Geswant in the Vaistenow
The expression die Faistenau ( Bavarian d 'Foastnau ), and Gschwandt for the village, is demonstrably used for the first time in 1324: On May 1, 1324, Vicedom Heinrich von Lampoding († 1347) indicated a building site for a church in the area of the today's village that had been cleared area and names the place in it in the Geswant .
In another document, the Archbishop Friedrich III. Signed on November 11, 1324, the area within the forest is mentioned: Vaistenow , Tevffenprunneow and Chueleuten , i.e. the current villages of Wald , Faistenau and Tiefbrunnau , as well as the Kühleiten area in Tiefbrunnau.

Benedikt Pillwein published the following about the Faistenau vicariate, geographically identical to the present-day community of Faistenau, in 1843, based on information from Faistenau vicar (1826–1832) Simon Bauernfeind:
In the vicariate F aistenau (bold, windy) In addition to the village of the same name, there are also the villages of Alm, Anger, Lidaun, Ramsau, Tiefbrunnau, Vorderesee and Wald with 167 houses, 193 residential parties and 1090 inhabitants.

The local church with 4 altars, various paintings and carvings was built in honor of h. Jakob the Greater (with the Rosary Brotherhood) built around 1390 by two brothers from Thurn, the church and tower enlarged in 1625, the upstairs church built in 1703, the organ installed by Karl M auracher from Fügen in Tyrol in 1825, a new choir performed in 1829. Many old tombstones have already been ceded; seven others in white and red marble are dedicated to the memory of vicars who have died here and some private individuals, and from the years 1604, 1705, 1708, 1759, 1789, 1801 and 1809.
The four bells contain the dates of 1400, 1580, 1731 and 1774.
The church was built in 1605.
In 1622, J ohann C hristoph S tenglmayr appeared as vicar. The vicariate used to be provided by priests from Thalgau.
A proper schoolboy didn't come here until 1822; a measurer used to do his job. In 1803 the current school and messner house was built. The school has 112 weekday, 73 repeat students. (Vicar Siegmund Bauernfeind with new dates).

- Millennial linden tree
- The Faistenau Jedermann - The Game of Dying of the Rich Man, based on Hugo von Hofmannsthal's dialect - has been performed in Faistenau every three years since 1971 . The game has been performed directly under the 1000-year-old linden tree since 1963, and the next season is in summer 2022.
- The neighboring alpine huts on the Sausteigalm and the Lärchenhütte on the north side of the Zwölferhorn are a worthwhile excursion destination . There you have a unique view of St. Gilgen and the three lakes: Wolfgangsee , Krotensee and Mondsee (Dreiseenblick). The alpine pastures of Faistenau can be reached via Tiefbrunnau , the last part via a toll road almost to the huts.
- The Felsenbad Faistenau is one of three river baths in Austria and is located between Alm and Lake Hintersee .

- The homeland film Die Sennerin von St. Kathrein (1955) and the ORF crime series Four Women and One Death (first season; 2005 and 2006) were mainly shot in Faistenau.

Faistenau belonged to the original parish Thalgau , in 1324 a branch church was donated, the still preserved church in Faistenau . In 1622 the Faistenau was raised to a vicariate , in 1873 to an independent Roman Catholic. Parish .

sport and freetime
Faistenau is one of the communities in Flachgau with a focus on tourism. In addition to sports such as mountain biking, hiking, swimming, cross-country skiing, canyoning and tobogganing, there is the Gaißau-Hintersee ski area with several lifts up to an altitude of 1567 m above sea level. A. ( Wieserhörndl ). The “Beach Volley Faistenau” association has set up a beach volleyball court on the Hintersee.
