Éragny (also called Éragny-sur-Oise ) is a French commune with 17,354 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Val-d'Oise department in north-west Paris . It is about 30 km from the center of Paris, is in the Communauté d'agglomération de Cergy-Pontoise and belongs to the canton of Cergy-2 . The inhabitants are called Éragniens or Éragniennes .
geography
Éragny is located on the Oise and belongs to the ville nouvelle of Cergy-Pointoise. The municipalities that surround Éragny are Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône to the north, Herblay-sur-Seine to the east, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine to the south, and Neuville-sur-Oise to the south-west . Éragny is bordered by Cergy to the west and Pontoise to the northwest .
history
The community was called Heriniacus or Aeriniacus in the early Middle Ages. Until the 19th century Éragny had no more than 500 inhabitants. When the rail network was connected in the 20th century, the number of inhabitants rose considerably.
