Brinay is a French municipality with 144 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016 Bourgogne ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) and the canton of Château-Chinon (until 2015 Châtillon-en-Bazois ).

Brinay is about 60 kilometers east-southeast of Nevers in the Morvan . Brinay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Tamnay-en-Bazois in the north, Maux in the north-east, Limanton in the south and east, Biches in the west and south-west and Alluy in the west and north-west.
