Parish Church of La Chaire-de-Saint-Pierre

Parish Church of La Chaire-de-Saint-Pierre

The church is dedicated to the Cathedra Petri , the see of St. Peter . Most of the building probably dates from the late 12th or early 13th century. The furnishing of the ribbed vault and the construction of the bell gable did not take place before the middle of the 16th century, if not in the following century. The earlier Romanesque vaults were replaced. The facade dates from the 17th or 18th century. Antoine Testard de Folmont examined the church in 1749 for possible repairs, which his nephew then carried out. The rich interior decoration of the church with marble is due to him. The burial chapel north of the building was added in the 19th century.

The building consists of a single-aisled nave with a length of three yokes with a semicircular apse and two side chapels , forming a transept. A polygonal stair tower is built on the south side. The bell gable rises on the west side with three round arch-shaped recesses for the bells. The upper part of the gable was changed in the 18th century to suit the taste of the time. The nave and apse are provided with a ribbed vault. Two round-arched double arches, one of which rests on Romanesque capitals , and half-columns frame the first yoke of the nave. The capitals are decorated with foliage. The abacuses carry cartridges . The cross ribs show ornate keystones and rest on rounded fighters . The church has been registered as a Monument historique since October 5, 1925 .

Many of the church's furnishings , dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, are registered as Monument historique :
